I think the reason why people struggle with this question especially in western society is because we have all been told since birth that there is more to life than this. Maybe that is all there is. If we were taught that our only purpose was to have kids and support them none of us would be pissed, we would just do our duty and die. This is not a big deal for alot of peoples in other parts of the world. I sometimes think the so called Savages who toil reproduce and die without ever reading a book or going to an opera are more evolved than us.
I got some more bull we were taught growing up. "Get married, live happily ever after." What about the fact that my kids look like the UPS driver? This is not my situation but you know what I mean. No one told me your wife might cheat or your son may become a heroin addict.

I remember watching this "Simpsons" episode where this half-baked stoner guy in a tie-dyed shirt yelled out "YOU GOTTA SIMPLIFY, MAN!!!!!!!" And whenever I start getting depressed over what life's about and everything... I just say that to myself.
Work, get income, love, reproduce, and die; It's so simple.
Try thinking about 2 + 2 really REALLY hard. Your head's gonna hurt after a while. That's 'cause life's obvious equation is too simple to dote on. Do something kind for an unfortunate child or a homeless family.... then you'll see what life is all about.

If that were the point of life (referring to your question), there really would be no point since the end would be the same as your means for attaining it. THe end and the means of a thing are only equal in eternity, not in time and space. In this realm, we can think of the end, or purpose of a thing due to its direction. In our case, we seek the love of God.

Geeze thats some pretty good points. I might add, to help others, to spread love, to know God. Oh and grandkids, heavens they are the greatest thing. One hug and slobbery kiss will get you through life with a smile.

The point of life in a religious point of view is to know God, seek God and to glorify God.

Aside from first grade religious indoctrination I recall the guru at the mountain top who said enjoy yourself,as he giggled .
