The insurance company would only find out about the accident if there was a police report or if you told them yourself. If you were involved in an accident and nobody got your personal information, for whatever reason, or if you settled outside of insurance, then no one can prove it. It's only on record if there was a police report or if a previous insurance company received information on it.

If the police were involved, or if the person injured has made a claim, yes, it's on record. Yes, every insurance company you go to for a quote will know about it once they run your record. You are required to report it anyway, and if you don't if they do happen to miss it, and find out later you can be charged with fraud in your application. They can also refuse to pay if you happen to be in an accident and they find out you lied to them. Be honest, best policy for you in the long run.

In this day and age of computers, insurance companies know everything about our driving history, and share that information with many people.

They will check your claims history when you get insurance. Any accident that a claim was filed for will be in your history along with the payout.

Because of the amount of information that is shared nowadays it is highly probable that they will know. My neighbour works for an insurance firm and she reckons that they're all hand in glove. They look out for each other

If there was a police report done and/or a claim filed, yes, my dear, we will know. We check driving history, claims history, and credit history before we will write a policy.
