    Hello,

No! I dont think Plutonium itself can be solved directly into water. However, water (or sea water) is used in some nuclear reactors for the purposes of holding or storing metal fuel rods, these contain the plutonium. Its the plutonium rods that are used to help power the reactor core.

**I think that although the actual plutonium doesnt disslove into the water the plutonium fuel rods are so radio active bye themselves that the water (or sea water) becomes radio active as a side effect. I'm think Sellarfield (windscale) where coolant seawater did pollute the North Sea, as far away as Norway & Russia.

The metal itself will not dissolve in water, but many salts of the metal are soluble. Plutonium nitrate is a good example.

Incidentally, have you got some plutonium that you are trying to dissolve ? If so, make sure that your life insurance policy is up to date !

    No.

But you can dissolve Plutonium in Nitric acid, but this is part of the process of refining plutonium for nuclear war heads so I won't continue...oh btw, it's very very very dangerous.
