Private schools know they are an expensive option for you to select so they have to work hard to earn your business,

public schools couldn't care less about impressing you or earning your business.

All you have to do is compare the percentage of students that actually graduate from public schools compared to private,

compare the SAT scores from public and private schools and finally compare the percentage of graduating seniors that go on to college from each.

The only excuse for sending your kids to public schools is because you can't afford it.

Final thing to look at, find out where your Senators and congressmen send their kids, even though they are ultimately responsible for "public education" over 90% send their kids to private school, think they know something?

There are still a few good schools left in America. If your local high school is like mine with 2000+ students, well the kid is just a number in the computer.

Preferably, if you are in a small community where the school has say 500-700 students or less, then I feel your student still has a chance to have a halfway decent outcome.

Our school system has too much BS politics involved in it anymore, from the state level all the way down to the local level.

I've put 5 kids through our system, and its DEFINITELY time for a change. Until the teachers unions are busted up we will continue to have slackers teaching our children nothing. We all can remember the teachers of our past that left their mark of excellence on us. THEY WERE THE TEACHERS. These people knew how to control a classroom naturally and make the subject interesting for the students. You could say that they truly loved their job. It showed, the proof was in the pudding. Nowadays too many teachers spend too much time blaming the parents for everything that happens at school, instead of focusing on teaching the children that are before them.

Check out your local schools by asking others their truthful opinions about the staff and graduation rates, etc. Your state should have a Dept of Education website that might give you some information on the schools you are looking at. Give it a try.

I'm wondering the same thing my self. I have to either send my daughter to a private school or move to another school district. Do your research. See if you can sit in some classes at your local high school and private schools to see what the environment is. I was a sub teacher for a while and the schools I subed for really put me off of the public schools around my home. There were so many fights between kids where school police had to come a take the kids away and that was in middle school. I have a good friend who is a principal at a private school and he says that he might have one or two fights between kids per year. With so many things in life you get what you pay for.

Private is better especially if you live in an area where there is lots of crime. But private schools can cost a lot of money. And you can sledom find one that is un relgious (I do not know if you do or do not want one that is relgious).

Public schools are free, but if you are in an area with high crime I would try and find one that is fenced in, and has great security. Lately on the news there has been horrible incidents at public schools.

In the end it counts what yuor student really thinks. Hope you find one that is right for you.

It depends soley on the child. See, i have went to public school and at the beginning of next year i will be going to private school because i don't learn what I'm supposed to but on the other hand my brother has a 4.0 and is doing perfect in public schools

We are in the same predicament in trying to decide betw public and private. It really boils down to how strong the public school is in your area. We are lucky in that our high school is one of the top in the state. However, the elementary and middle schools are atrocious and we are not sending our kids there. Gangs, lower academic standards. Education is one of the main ways to open doors to future opportunities for our kids. Wherever the curriculum is strongest, as long as it ALSO provides a SAFE environment, is best.

If you live in the USA and have an exceptional child.. You should look into good private schooling.. or home schooling.

If your child does not want to learn and is lazy.. why waste the money for private school?

If you can afford a private school, by all means send your child. They will actually GET an education. Private school will be a huge advantage in college and later in life.

well it depends on which will be perfect for your child. See if it is a safe enviorment to your child and you. Go to open houses and things like that to check the schools out. Either public or private.

It depends on three things :

    1. The ability of your child to cope with the environment.

    2. The country where you are

    3. What your child is aiming for.
