Brake problem with a 2006 Ford F150?

Hubby's truck has had something weird going on when he brakes lately. He took it to the local Ford dealership and they told him nothing is wrong. When he's driving, he says it feels like the front brakes are dropping down ... then when he applies the brakes, before he comes to a full stop, it feels like they lift back up. He says it's not all the time, it's very sporadic. He's afraid to keep driving it even though the dealership says nothing's wrong. Any ideas what may be the problem?

Update:

No, it's not the brake pedals, he said it feels like the brakes are actually dropping down in the front end. Yes, it affects his braking, like it is harder and takes longer when this occurs. It doesn't happen all the time, only every once in awhile. Yes, it's his first heavy duty p/u, although I don't see what that has to do with it? I can't imagine they would have that sort of issue as a norm?

Update 2:

I don't know how else to explain it, but he says it's like the brakes are dropping down and it's grinding on the metal. It causes a drag while he's driving until he comes to a complete stop and they "pop" back up. It's an audible sound like a clunk and a physical shudder through the front end of the truck.

Update 3:

Hey Run ... does it happen while driving, before you ever put your foot on the brake? It's happened while he was going 55mph, causing a drag on the vehicle ... causing him to HAVE to brake in order to "reset" the brakes or whatever it is.

The front brakes dropping down, do you mean the brake pedal?

It could possibly be an air bubble in the brake line, not totally sure though. Does it make it harder for him to stop (like he's got to press down on it harder and it takes longer to come to a stop?) That could be a bubble. Are there any other symptoms (like shuddering when it stops, a squealing noise, etc) Need more info.

Bring it back to the selling dealer and ask that they drive it in the situations that your hubby puts it in to see if they can duplicate it (ask to have a shop foreman drive the truck on the highway with Hubby and have him go thru the motions to get the problem to happen)

I'm not sure also on your problem, as ABS braking (if braking pretty hard as some people do) can cause the abs to activate causing a sensation of the brakes giving way and catching (that is the ABS "modulating" or letting on and off the brakes to control the braking as it is designed to do) .. the pedal will usually come up and down when such events occur...

I have a 1997 F150, and have experienced the same problem. When I come to a stop, the brake pedal drops just before I come to a complete stop, then the pedal comes back up (pushes my braking foot up). The brakes still work, though. At one point, the ABS light came on. After a bit of driving, it goes back to normal. I just chalk it up to a peculiarity of ABS brakes. If there is any noticable loss in braking power, I will take it in for inspection.

The brakes are connceted to the radio!!! You need to get it fixed immeditely!! I had that problem with mine, exact same truck (4x4, 2006, ect.), and I cannot believe it has happened to someone else!!!! Wow. I think we need to write Ford about this... and maybe they could worn the other unfortunate F150 owners as well. This is insane. It is also going to cost you $2,500 as well. Ford does not cover this in the warrenty, they say that it is an issue that needs to be resolved via mechanic or whoever last checked your brakes. This is ridiculous!

"the front brakes are dropping down" what does that mean? I'm here at a ford dealer and i sure wouldn't know what your talking about. does he mean the pedal drops closer to the floor with no change in braking power? i really would like to know. please add a note or ask a new question with a more detailed explanation for whats happening. also add weather this is his first new style half ton. or first pickup, or whatever. there are allot of times when people buy new trucks and come in with complaints because they got out of their car and into a truck and just aren't aware of what to expect

I own an auto repair shop and I am sorry to say but your explanation makes no sense. I would have to drive the vehicle to understand your complaint.
