How come the only way to support the troops is to support any war that the governement sends them into?
Why can't I support the troops and want them home for Christmas? Or support the troops but not the government.?

Our soldiers offer to give up their lives so that we can be free. It is their gift to us. And all they ask for in return is that we never send them into harm's way unless it is absolutely necessary.
The best way to support our troops is to hold to account the Government who put them in harm's way based on a lie.
We must support our troops by demanding that they're pulled out away from murder and murdering on behalf of politicians who couldn't be bothered to even join up themselves.

You can support the troops, yet not support the endevor into which they have been sent!
Soldiers throughout history have often been called to do tasks that the people did not agree with, which include quelling riots and stopping civil insurection
These same soldiers have spouses and families at home.
Taking a few extra minutes to make sure that they have transportation, or fix a leaking roof or maybe as simple as just letting them know you are there to assist if needed
that is supporting the troops

There are many ways of supporting out troops without supporting the policies of a particular administration.
For it to be otherwise would be the same logic as having to hate a person only because you disagree with something they said.
My best friends frequently say things I disagree with, doesn't change the fact they are still my best friends.
Same with our military, not supporting a particular military action is a completely different issue.
I served in Vietnam, my daughter is in Iraq, and my grandson is in Korea, how much damn support do you want!!!!! While I support the action in Afghanistan, I do not support the war in Iraq.

I wouldn't feel guilty about that. The idea that you have brought forth is another way for Republicans to make you feel guilty for not supporting an unjust war in Iraq. The real war we should be fighting is on the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan against Bin Laden not Iraq. Bush was just trying to make Daddy proud by doing what Poppa Bush was unable to accomplish: Taking out Saddam. Unfortunately it backfired and our troops are paying the price in Iraq. I support and pray for our troop's safe return as soon as possible.

I think they are totally separate issues, and you can defiantly support our Military without supporting the Government's reasons for sending them into combat.
I come from a mostly Democrat family. My parent's make no secret about their feeling's towards President Bush and his decision to invade Iraq, but they completely support my husband who is in the Military.
People are entitled to their own political views, and I guess they are even entitled to dislike our Military if they choose, but our troops are only doing their job and Americans that are against them need to realize that as long as these men and women continue to enlist, reenlist and extend, it's keeping those who don't want to be in Military out of it. Everyone is talking about the draft now, and that's just what will happen providing we don't have enough people in the Armed Forces to protect our country.

How do you support troops? Pay lip service? A little yellow ribbon on your car? Mail care packages to troops in war? Contribute to veterans' organizations? Volunteer at a Veterans Administration hospital? Maybe with winter coming you could shovel snow for that old man down the street that flies a flag every day.

Strange isn't it,,if you are against the war immediately the right wing jumps on you as being anti America.. communist socialist
liberal pinkos...the list goes on..the worst being we don't support our troops but the terrorist!
What I notice about the war supporters is they keep changing why we are there in the first place.. ,,,When you have what history is writing as the worst President ever as your leader its
easy to understand why they are so defensive.about a failed policy and offensive to those who Question it!!

I don't think that's right, and I don't think everyone belives that. I don't really support our actions in Iraq. I'd like to see all of our troops home and our resources spent on domestic problems. But I still respect and appreciate what our soldiers do. I consider myself someone who supports the military men and women without supporting every mission or campaign in which they engage. I would have to disagree.

Because we have a democratically elected government w/ checks and balances from Congress and the Judiciary. In addition the President has hundreds of military, and strategy advisers, each of whom are more qualified than you.
Nobody wants you deciding anything.
We can do well w/o your support ,as long as we can keep people like you from harassing our government and destroying the morale of our troops.
