Can I swap 87 3.8 with a 88 3800? All Buick motors?

I have a good 88 3800(C) motor that I want to install in a car that has a bad 87 3.8(3) motor. I know they will bolt up but I was thinking just change the computer and some wiring(mainly the coil pack). When I took both computers out the 88 has an additional orange (2x16prong)plug on the computer. The only few differences between the cars is the 88 has a digital dash, digital gear indicator, digital (press button) heater controls and auto leveling. They are both ParkAve's. Would it hurt the computer if I tried it anyways without using the additional plug?

Anything is possible, but its way more trouble than its worth, you'd also have to swap the entire wire harness and the dashes, the level ride isn't really an issue as it can be disabled.
