Dyeing fabric using tea bags?
I'd like to change the color of the fabric on my loveseat from off white to a brown. I remember hearing somewhere, sometime ago that tea (hot, from tea bags) makes an inexpensive and interesting dye for fabric. Has anyone else heard this or am I alone? Better yet, has anyone TRIED it? Thanks for all the help!

I used this technique for lace and it didn't make the lace too brown. It made it look antique. I think you should test a small piece of similar fabric to see the time that you should keep it in your tea solution.

Dying fabric with tea will not give a brown color. At best you will get a dark beige or light tan color. If you are still considering this process, you should remember that tea will not give a colorfast result and it likely will be uneven in shading. It would also require a huge amount of tea to get a strong enough solution at the volume required to dye that much fabric.
