I went two weeks past my due date and I ended up having a 8lb 8oz baby boy, You should be fine if this is your first child this is totally normal to go over. The baby will come when he/or she is ready. Also don't go by what the doctors say about how big the baby is I have had friends that were told they were going to have a small bay and it ended up being a 10 lb baby. When it comes to doctors and guessing the weight it really is just a guess. Good luck and congrats.

on my due date i was only 3 cent. dialated and wasnt having contractions. everything was fine. i went in 5 days later had a non stress test an exam (4 cent. dialated) and then iin the ultra sound found out there was like no fluid there and had an emergancy induction. my baby was born at 6lbs 1 oz. she was almost born at 27 weeks... can you imagine how small she would have been then? NORMALY drs wont induce until after your 41st week just to make SURE your baby is fully developed but they try not to let you hit 42 weeks so the baby doesnt get too big for you to safely deliver... GOOD LUCK!! im sure everything will be fine

sounds like hes doing the right thing. No need to induce if everything is going good. Theres no reason to rush the baby out of the healthiest place for him, your belly :) Everything will be fine. Ive heard of people being induced no sooner than 2 weeks after the due date. Just hang in there. Try loads of walking and sex to get things moving!!!! Non-stress tests are simple and nothing bad with them im sure he just wants to see how the baby reacts. Things will be fine...your going to have a healthy beautiful baby sooner than you think :) GOODLUCK !!!!!

Your due date isn't an exact date. It's easily plus or minus 2 weeks, if the baby isn't stressed and your life isn't in danger there is no call to induce. If you had a complication due to inducing and there weren't medical reasons for the induction he is opening himself up for a lawsuit. Not to mention your insurance company could refuse to pay for it.

Inductions work best when the cervix is 'ripe', sounds like yours isn't. Inductions are often a much harder labor than normal natural labor.

Your in a hurry to see your baby, it would be more convenient for you, but that doesn't mean it would be best for you or your baby.

Be glad you have a doctor who agrees.

A due date is just an estimate. You are not late until you go 2 weeks past your estimated due date. Hardly anyone gives birth on the date given to them. More and more doctors give a date range instead of 1 date.

Yes. Inductions are riskier than going into labor on your own, so they don't like to do them unless they feel that the baby staying inside you is risky for the baby, like if your blood pressure is high or you go way overdue. The real average for pregnancy is not 40 weeks- it's 41 weeks 1 day for first-time moms and 40 weeks 3 days for second or more. Just be patient (I know that's hard when you're uncomfortable). The baby will let your body know when it's ready and you will go into labor.

  • My sister wasn't induced until a week past her due date. I think this is normal. You baby is at a healthy weight, so another few days isn't going to hurt. Best of luck!!

It happens all the time. I know you are uncomfortable but don't push to be induced. That baby will come when it is ready. Your due date could have been off a bit. Also, when you are induced, the labor is much harder.

No this hasn't happen to me but I did get induced and it hurt really really bad. I had to be induced because I was 2 cem for three days and nothing else was happening, oh yeah and my water broke.

So like everyone else has said, relax and do not worry when you do go into labor you will wish you had 2 more days.

i went early, but...my doctor was telling me about induction because i didn't really dilate over a period of time, it happened within a couple of days so he though i may go past due too. they usually let you go 2 weeks past, just because they can't really determine the exact date of conception. (unless you have some idea) your due date might actually be when you are at 38 weeks. they don't like you to go past this because the placenta etc. can start to break down or something like that. i wouldn't worry. i know you're anxious but let that baby cook. he/she will come. get good rest at night and walk around when you're awake.
