Microsoft Word & Microsoft Works?

works is a totally cheap word processor that is totally incompatible with every other word processor out there. i think it's a microsoft scam to force you to buy their overwhelmingly expensive office suite when you become so frustrated with works

Microsoft Works has some interesting functionality, but ultimately, I feel that Microsoft Office just does much more than Works.

However, if you are used to Word, then Works Word Processor fits like a glove. It almost feels like a clone, though it has a couple minute differences.

As differences between Works and Office, Works does not have anything like PowerPoint or Publisher. There's no ClipArt or FrontPage, or Email software.

But, barring all of that, Microsoft Works definitely isn't a black sheep, it just really depends which nuances you are used to. It just doesn't have all of the functions of Office.

Don't delete works It can be valuable.

If your Word or Microsoft office suite expires or ever has problems, you can work and save as Word file in Works.

A handy backup. Also good for text editing html without all the bells and whistles code as in Word and other text editors for HTML. Works spreadsheet is very simple, if you need then stick with the suite. But why delete?

There are not the same features and options in Works as in the Suite however if you need simple tasks then Works is OK.

Of all the answers I read, Byron M gives you the best overall view of the two. Since Windows runs in a majority of U.S. computers, including corporate America, and Word is the accepted word processing program, you might not be able to communicate as easily as you would like if you keep works. You can uninstall Works, if you don't want to keep it, and why would you need two?

Excel is by far the better spreadsheet, and there is nothing else like PowerPoint, FrontPage or Access. Keep Office.

Delete Works. It's just a cheap alternative. For example, the database in Works won't let you do relational databases, the spreadsheet is a very far cry from Excel, only the word processing application is half-decent, but still Word is a LOT better.

I would agree that Open Office is the best choice to get around having to buy Microsoft Office. Just be careful to make sure you save the files in the right format. When I first started using Open Office, my Excel like spreadsheets weren't saved under the Excel format, and I thus would not open when I got to the lab to print them off. This is simple and is just done by selecting the format under the drop down menu when you save the files.

Word is MUCH better. Works is like a dumbed and cheap version of Word. Since 90% of the world functions with Word, just go with Word.

The "word" part of it is similar- however- the spreadsheet version is very different. I prefer Microsoft Excel.

Word is a much more modern program. Works is ok, but I think you will find Word is more functional and compatible when interacting with other computers.
