What's good for an elderly person who has bad breath?
They have good dental hygiene(and see the dentist regularly) and beautiful teeth (white and their natural teeth) but their breath is really bad.... any recommendation on what could be the cause or how it can be controlled?

If the bad breath is not coming from the mouth then check with the MD. It could be coming from their stomach, meaning it has to do with their diet. Check eith the MD see what they say.

Basically Dry Mouth can be caused by excessive clearance (such as by excessive breathing through the mouth, sleeping with mouth open), or it may be caused by insufficient production of saliva . If you are below the age of 35, dry mouth will usually be caused by something you eat (pill) or drink (Artificial Flavour). Crystal Light is notorious for causing dry mouth, and some prescriptions can cause dry mouth either in small quantities or require large quantities before you know you have dry mouth. Do not consume anything that can contribute to mouth dryness (salt, caffeine, alcohol), and do not consume anything which can encourage tooth decay such as carbonated drinks. You will no longer drink water, rather you will make your mouth a water reservoir for as long as you can and then swallow; absorption occurs with time the mouth is in direct contact with water. It doesn't matter if its cold or warm, keep the water in your mouth as long as you can; ideally 5 min at time, though some people could only bare 30 sec at a time. I would recommend at least 1x 5 min session, and 3x 2 min sessions, and the rest 30-40s sessions. Since your body can't hydrate your mouth, you take matters into your own mouth. Btw, pretending the water is mouthwash improves overall effectiveness or sensation anyways. Stop using any product you used the day or evening before dry mouth occurred. If you follow these instructions to a tea, and you were not sick when you took up the dry mouth symptom, if this symptom persists for 4 days, see the doctor on the 5th day. See the doctor sooner if you notice (EXTREME) irregularities inside your mouth appearance wise; note there will be some due to dryness. If you go to the doctor too soon, he may have too little to look at. If you go too late, your mouth could remain a desert forever. If there's you didn't take up any new product, or didn't change any dosage and you have dry mouth, again wait 4 days, see doctor on the 5th, you have a medical condition which is causing your dry mouth. Luckily, dry mouth is a more unique symptom, but the problem is you don't want to have anything its linked to. If you have been fatigued, for a very long time, it may give you both an answer and prognosis. Dry mouth sufferer (2 days in)

The need to see both the doctor and the dentist to find out what is causing it. It could be something medical or it could be dental but they should see the doc first to rule out a medical cause and then see the dentist.

Just see the dentist. They are trained in this sort of thing. a doctor would likely send you to the dentist. It could be some kind of oral infection or if they haven't had their teeth cleaned, calculus buildup could be the cause. Or maybe they just eat a lot of stinky foods or smoke.

Keep the patient well hydrated. A dry mouth will lead to bad breath. Some medications cause bad breath, so consider that as a cause, also.
