Retail workers...what is your best "returned purchase" story?

I had a customer bring in $300 of merchandise, her husband had paid for the merchandise with his credit card, she wanted the money put back on her credit card. When I told her I couldn't do that, she got furious. Said they were getting a divorce and he had no right to the money. I said "actually, YOU have no right to profit over something he may still be paying for."

Also had a customer return a wine rack, still had the tags on it, still had the receipt. She had bought it 7 years ago and "didn't want it". The last price I could find on it was $9.95 (clearance) The company inventory book showed "0". She paid $39.95 for it and got mad that I would only offer her the $9.95. Which I thought was more than generous, considering our return policy is 60 days and this was WELL past the 60 days.

A woman walk into a store with an cd crushed saying that she bought it and wanted a refund for it I asked her was it cracked when you bought it. she said that she was going sky diving and it fell out of the plane. When I said that we could not give her a refund she asked to talk with my manger. She explaned the story to him and he just started cracking up.

I used to work at Wal-Mart Super Center and people were always returning dead fish. They have a 72 hour policy that if you purchase a fish from the pet department and it doesn't last for at least 72 hours you can get a refund. It was so gross.

The ones that always made me laugh when people would try and return half eaten food because it tasted funny. I'd always laugh and say, "it couldn't have been too bad seeing as how you ate half of it before you decided to bring it back."

Just goes to show you that Wal-Mart will in fact take anything back.

I had a little old lady with a disgusiting stained, torn up and written on receipt come in and return some merchandise. Then she came in a few days later and returned some more with a receipt in the same condition. I thought it was weird but went on about my business.. Then my manager comes out and describes this lady, she was hard to miss, old, nicely dressed, but wearing one of those green see-through visors. He said if she came in to return anything to call him out and he would handle her b/c she was apparently going to our stores all over our region with these tattered, dirty, apparently fake reciepts and returning stolen merchandise. I said uh oh, I just helped her like 5 minutes ago and the girl working with me said she had helped her a few days earlier and between the two of us we had unintentionally helped her steal hundreds of dollars. I felt so bad, I don't know if she was ever caught!

I work at a "dollar" store part time. Everything is 1 buck. I've had people complain and bring back items they say didn't work right. Hey, it's only $1.00. What did they expect? Also, I've had people ask for a discount if they buy more than 10 items. A discount off 1 dollar?

I tried to return a sweat shirt to Miller's Outpost that was actually purchased from Mervyns. I got it as a gift. The chick at Miller's took it anyway and gave me $13 for it.

    That was cool.

Perhaps the statement is made to cover their butt. Generally information needs to be verified and unbiased journalism seeks out both sides of the story. I think these days the media has become biased and lazy (in general) taking the easy route, pushing the sensationalism and disregarding the consequences of their reports. In the case of this statement, they are justifying not doing a thorough job of investigating,,, so yah, it annoys me ;)
