Can A Virus Make Yahoo! Messenger Send Weird Links?
Yesterday I received several weird links from a friend using Yahoo! Messenger. Today I received several strange links from another friend using messenger. My friend said a virus made his computer send those messages, but I have never heard anything like this before. Are these people just playing a trick on me?

It's quite a mission to work what one a user may have as currently installed virus scanners are often a target (being disabled by the worm) so a clean bill of health from an installed antivirus program might in fact be incorrect... hence the online virus scanners as an option, below are some of the most common ones used...

as some of the worms doing the rounds on yahoo (and other IM's) at the moment are only made possible because ppl haven't used windows update for critical and security patches so the worms/trojans are using known security issues

First of all update both your spyware and virus programs. then go into Safe mode and run them. If you don't know how to go ino safe mode, restart the computer and continually press the F8 key until a screen comes up with Safe Mode. The reason for using Safe mode is some viruses and trojans like to hide in running applications and in safe mode, Windows does not start any applications it does not need , for instance your web browser, etc.

my suggestion is to change your password.Your friend may not have a virus, but instead someone has gotten their password and is doing it. A friend of mine and I both had a problem with someone going in and sending messages to sex websites to all of our friends. Someone has somehow managed to get in and do this. Hopefully that will help you. I plan on changing my password weekly now. I also set up another id and added it to my buddy list, so that i can check to see if anyone has gotten in and sent messages again.

Yes - don't click on these or you'll be infected too. Run your virus check. I have gotten several of these from friends too.

sounds like it's an adware problem. Most virious programs won't catch the problem you need to get an adware sweeper.
