The breed is "Cairn Terrier." The dog's real name was Danny.
Bob Blair originally trained Danny to be Little Ricky's dog on "I Love Lucy." Also on Dennis the Menace. Owner: Frank Inn.

YES! "Fred" was a Cairn Terrier adopted by Little Ricky in NY as a puppy and then moved with the family to Connecticut as an adult. Absolutely adorable but naughty when he tries to bury his bone in Lucy's tulip bed, when she is trying to wrest the trophy for "Best Garden" from Betty Ramsey. Even cuter was when Lucy, Fred, Ethel and Little Ricky were rehearsing for a charity show and the music was SO bad that the little dog howls and high-tails it UP the stairs to get away from the BAD sounds. Their hearing is more acute than ours! And yes, ALL terriers are TERRORS. That is the BEAUTY of the breed. You just have to know their traits beforehand. I LOVE them ALL! Teddy Roosevelt and other presidents used them to rat in the Whitehouse and be good family pets. Double duty for them, very hard little workers. Put on British ships to rat, taken to ranches and farms all over the British Isles and here, too.You cannot ask for more versatile dogs, except maybe, German Shepherds. Well, Happy and Prosperous New Year to ALL. Jos

I don't even remember a dog named Fred on I Love Lucy. Was it after little Ricky was born and they moved to Connecticut?

I remember the dog (one episode only). Pets were supposed to be against the Ricardos' lease, but Fred caves in when Little Ricky names if "Fred" (he only names pets after people he likes). It was little, but I don't remember the breed.
