When my children were young, I was told to keep them close to me early on and they'll be confident as they grow up. Sure enough it worked. My kids could go places and be comfortable with people while they grew up as they had been very close while learning to be independant.

Don't Bet on the Prince. It's a book about how a woman is empowered and will find true happiness in herself and not to look for total fulfillment in finding a guy. If after you achieve that in yourself, then finding a nice man to hang around with, to make things interesting, fun and enjoyable may not be such a bad thing either. It's all a matter of perspective and loving yourself first.
