We've all heard of the Oprah question, but how many of you have ever helped anyone else? And how?

I'm curious to see if we actually put our money or time where our mouth is.

Well...the things I have done are small, but I think that they are helpful.

I used to work for an inner city nursery, so would keep an eye out for sales on clothes at retail, second hand, and garage sales to give clothing to indigent children going home.

Our work sponsors a family every year for Christmas, helping them with food, clothes, toys. We all give to that.

I volunteer on Thanksgiving to serve food to the homeless every year.

I donate to random charities--breast cancer, childrens homes, Goodwill, American Cancer Society, my college alumni association, and a local chapter on STD/AIDS prevention.

Think I do a fair amount...could do more though.

My morther always said there is room at our table we'll just add some more water to the soup.We may not have alot but what we have is enough

I have opened my home to many teenagers over the years I always had 3 hard and fast rules 1. You must call your parents every night 2. You must go to school 3. No booze or drugs and I made sure they knew it was temporary until they could work things out with their parents

I have also used my old home to house people who needed a little to get on their feet

I tried to show my childern that everyone is special and have something to share

I was mostly raised by my grandparents and my grandpa was one of the most generous people I know. He would always stop to help a stranger and he was forever paying for other people's lunch. He bailed people out of jail. He was the water man and instead of turning off the water when there were kids in the home, he would pay the bill for them. I've tried to follow his example when I can.

I have loaned strangers money, loaned my friends money and then told them not to pay it back because I didn't need it at the time. I made my best friend's house payment once. I have stopped to help people on the side of the road. If I have the money, I pay for snacks for other kids at my kids' ball games who dont' have any money. I offer to help people lift things into their cars. I take in stray animals all the time and usually have to scrounge around to find something to feed them, but I manage because I can't stand the thought of them starving or getting hit by a car.

And I must be doing something right because my daughter recently donated her hair to Locks of Love on her own with no suggestion from me. And when I have money to give my son for ball games, he often comes home asking me if it was ok if he bought something for someone who didn't have any money.

And now here I am with 2 bucks in my purse and I have been trying and trying to find someone to loan me $350 until I can line up some more graphic design jobs and pay them back out of my tax refund and not a soul will help me. All I get is offers from jerks for things I'm just not willing to do. What is wrong with people anymore? I mean I see all this stuff on TV about people giving, but when it comes down to one on one, it's hard to find a kind, generous person.

well I don't give money but my job you see I love my job cause I work with kids that have challeges they are blind. It is the most rewardind experince in my life. I am responable for there meals and I wash dishes and bus tables. they also were colleting money for the homeless and I gave for that so people would would have a nice thanks giving. helping the blind kids that we take kids between 1-21 at our school and some have multiple handlcapps but you learn to help them the best you know how. I the one that have the reward seeing the smiles and the reward on there faces.

I'm sure all of us have helped someone when we had it, Oprah hasn't come up with anything special. I met this woman at my son's school who was living out of her car with her 2 grand kids I felt it in my heart to let her move in with me and we're still friends to this day, I loan out money with no intention of asking for it back, once it's gone it's gone. I don't like to see kids suffer so if you're going through a rough time and you have kids my door and purse are open to you.

I give out of the kindness of my heart, Oprah gives for media coverage because everything she does we all have to hear about it she never gives in silent.

One year, right around Christmas, the husband of a woman who worked in the office lost his job. The woman mentioned to a friend that it was going to be a pretty skimpy Christmas for her family.

So, instead of adopting a family of strangers, we adopted her family. The day before the holiday, she came in to find her cubicle filled with gifts for her family and lots of holiday food and desserts.

We all go through tough times and it was nice to be able to help someone out when she was going through one of her own.

often times we don't speak of the things that we do, but i have a story for you.

I was driving home from work one day. I saw a car driving down the emergency lane on the freeway. as i got closer i could see they had a flat tire and that they had a handy cap license plate. I pulled my truck in front of them and found they were both wheel chair bound. I changed their tire for them and sent them on their way.
