Cowl Shake????

I honestly have NO IDEA at all about what it is. I know that it happens in convertibles but what exactly is it. My dad said that a cowl is where the windsheild is in the car like in front on the outside and the top of the dash inside. Whats it matter if you have cowl shake? Is it dangerous? does it effect handling?

Update:

so if it is loose and that means the frame isn't real rigid is that bad? I read that it can cause nuts and bolts to loosen

the cowl is where your wiper blades park, this is also where the fresh air is pick up for your ac system. now you ask about cowl shake, ive never heard of it but i know that a cowl will come loose. if it flexes that means your body is flexing and this is good. unibody cars had a bad deal with body flex because they didnt have a full chasis so drag racers would add frame connecters to prevent this, my old camaro with a four speed was bad about it until i added frame connectors, hope this helps a little

Convertables typically have less structure holding the body and frame stiff. Cowl shake is the result of the flexing of the body and frame. It is not a dangerous condition. It is used to judge how stiff the chassis is during testing by magazines.

Its not dangerous, its just that your cowl is broken or something, and is easy to move about.
