Do you keep things just because of its sentimental value?

I occasionally do that with my old journals and projects, but there are days when I just want to throw everything away and start with a new slate... It makes me feel good and refreshed once I get rid of some of those items because the memories aren't always that good... If I could, I would take everything out of my room and start new! Ha ha...

Update:

I meant "their" not "its"... :-)

You should see my attic! I do know what you mean though- starting over is never easy and I had burned old photos of a previous relationship, an abusive one at that. I love writing and journals, I still have mine from high school- 18 years ago. Sometimes I will just read and sit and chuckle to myself. That's sentimental for me because all my brothers were enlisted or just not around at the time so I retreated inward with the written word. Words are power to me.

I keep sentimental things and on occasion I use them to reconnect. An example is a newspaper from my first year of high school. A friend of mine was on the front page because she had won the Miss Teenage Mn. pageant and had placed second or third in the national contest. I sent her the paper recently so that she would have it for her kids. I think it is so cool to give someone something good that they had either forgotten about or had thought were long gone.

Of course I do and I have never met somebody who did not. Saving things from your past because of their sentimental value is a way to relive fond memories and good times from your past.I find it nice to be going through a box or drawer looking for something and come across a picture or a memento of a past time and I pause for a moment think about what happened and smile.Throwing all those tidbits away would be like throwing away your memories and past.

I do. I'm a pack-rat with things of sentimental value. I've cleaned house before though & that can cleanse not only the house, but the spirit. Just be careful that you don't throw away something that you will truly miss later.

I think thats most of us, i'm organizing my closet right now and i don't want to throw alot of what appears to be "junk" away because it reminds me of something, one day you will throw some of these things away and some will never leave your possesion, there is nothing wrong with that for the most part as long as you don't keep EVERYTHING for "sentimental reasons".

I have kept alot of sentimental items. Too many and no place to

put anymore. I find it very hard to throw anything that I am

attached to out, but I am going to clean my bedroom out real soon

its the most cluttered room in my house.

Yes, but I never end up throwing them way. I never even think about throwing them away. I love sharing the ideas I used to have with friends and other people I know.

I only keep things with sentimental value. Everything else can be replaced. I don't keep journals though, I only write when I'm feeling bad and found that keeping them, reading them made me relive those bad times. I periodically rip them up and burn them.

Yes, I do. It's nice sometimes to go back and find something from the distant past. Even looking at old photo's brings back memories, both good and sad.

Yes, I'm probably one of the most sentimental person and I can't throw away nothing that has sentimental value to me.
