why do boat owners hate boats?
why do boat owners hate boats? it seems like they always attempt to discourage people interested in buying a boat. I know owning a boat is a huge financial deal but is owning a boat "that bad"? doesn't anyone enjoy their boats? or do the costs of owning far outweigh the pleasure of having one?

I agree, owning a boat is great, that is until the warranty expires! I bought a Bayliner 11 years ago, and it's spent most of it's live in the shop, and this was their cheapest boat. Very little enjoyment for the money. Still, I love the water, and live between to huge lakes, so come spring, I'm going boat shopping!

A boat is a "hole you pour money into" and usually considered as a luxury item. I own and live on a 36' Columbia and have done so for 14 years and would not change it for the world. Yes it can be expensive but the pleasure I get out of life far out weighs the maintenance cost and I don't pay rent!! You can't move an apartment or house but you can a boat. It's pure freedom!

If you have money coming out the ying yang, it's great to own one. It is quite costly to maintain, gas, clean, etc. If you live paycheck to paycheck, it'd be more of a pain to own than it would to just rent one on occassion when you get the urge to go out for a day on the water. OR you could always do like I do, make friends with someone who has a boat, and use theirs!

Looks like the sailors are the only owners that answer your answer positive. I am doing a complete refit on my Lancer 29 and still hasn't cost what I hear power boaters spend in a single season... Jim

With our sail boat there is very little fuel coat. For the many hours we re out sailing, the cost is minimal. Even for marina fees and repairs, we spend relatively little and receive much enjoyment.

i love boats! so much, when i was a teenager i started learning how to maintain & repair my own. now i starve trying to sell & repair other people's. just kidding. owning a boat is like owning an expensive car. if you can't maintain it yourself, you need to have a little "extra" money.

they hate boats b/c they are such a hassle to load and unloard, fill up with gas, going speed limit (tho never knowing what it is), hitting piers, having to doge jet skis, and wave runners, the list goes on and on and on
