honest question for the creationists...?
This was posted under another question: "I take it as an insult to my intelligence when someone tried to convince me that the world started from nothing."
Don't you grasp the irony here? That this is EXACTLY what the creation myth is about, god creating everything out of nothing.
Science actually explains the earth's formation very easily and understandably if you bother taking the time to consider it. Here's a pretty simplistic site for those who have no idea...

Now can somebody please explain to me, IN YOUR OWN WORDS without bible quotes, how does god creating everything 'poof' out of nothing, make more sense than natural explanations? I honestly would like to understand why you cling to the creation mythology in this day and age.

So... that explanation does it for you, huh? Some snowballs and and a few rocky lumps and a pinch of dust particles mixed with gravity, and poof, we have planets with complex ecosystems, mind-blowing single-cell organisms, and humans with the ability to think, feel, and make their own decisions? Honestly, I don't cling to Creation mythology. I cling to Creation truth. Why do I cling to it? It means there is a purpose! If there is no God who created us and gave us His Creation and loves us, what's the point of being here? You are left to try to be successful or party or just fulfill your own desires, which only lasts until you die. That there is a God purposefully creating us is much more sensical than a universe that randomly made itself. With God, we have a hope for a life after Earth and a purpose to fulfill while we're here. I know that God loves everyone and created this universe for a reason. That's why I cling to creationism. And since I'm not very smart, I'm no scientist, you should check out The Case for A Creator by Lee Strobel. He says things a million times better than I can. Read it even just to learn more!

there are many theories of the origin of the universe. science now has produced evidence for the theory of the big bang. Even Stephen Hawking propposed a theory becasue he doesn't like the God inferance. However he later admitted his theory involved fictional numbers. What Christians propose is that God being a spirit is not subject to the physical laws of the universe, but rather he created those laws. Scince has had no answer to give for where the informatin in DNA originated. This language is much more complex than what we use on our computers. The thing with computers is people program them they don't function unless information is fed inot them.
Source(s): I would like to suggest the book the case for the creator writen by a former atheist and lnvestigative reporter who was the legal editor for the Chicago tribune. He poses tough questions to scienctists in a number of diffeent fields. I lent out my copy already dang I could have answerd you a little better. - 1 decade ago
God is all powerful and can do ANYTHING. He is not human nor do our human minds understand the all of His ways- but we do know that He is the beginning and did create the world and all its creation. He is the designer- God is far above us- that you can try your harest to comprehend how He did it- when all you need to know is that HE DID IT. Nothing is impossible with Him! And He created it FOR HIM. He created us FOR HIM. There is indeed a Creator, look at what an intelligent design He has created! Does a painting have a painter? Does a building have a builder? YES. Just as it is with creation- it obviously has a Creator- and that is God. Maker of Heaven and Earth- Praise Be to Him!

There's definitely some irony there. I'm not a creationist and I'm not totally convinced of evolution, but accept a lot of what it says and acknowledge it as the most likely theory. It's possible to believe in both God and evolution. Evolution can be the answer to how without being the answer to why.

I've spent some time in creationist churches, and I can tell you why. Because they're told from the pulpit that it's REAL REAL REAL! And once you start doubting THAT bit of the bible being real - it all begins to fall down. They say then you use MANs judgement on gods holy word. And what if MAN decides to throw out a commandment or two? Or decide that Jesus wasn't divine?
Creationism is the base for the whole house of cards. Without it - the house falls down. It becomes a huge slippery slope to atheism or worse (!!) being a liberal, non-literalist christian.

I looked at the site you referenced, seems to me it takes more faith for you to beleive that "the sun formed" on it's own, than for me to believe that God created the heavens and the earth.

Actually, logically, if you're trying to initiate a conversation to convince creationists that you're right and they are wrong, you have no right to demand that they give proof of their beliefs. Rather, you must give proof of yours. And if you won't allow them to use the Bible, then you need to use your own words too, not a link to "history of the universe.com", to prove it. The burden of proof rests on you, not on them. Now, if I were to approach you and tell you that I was going to convince you that creation is correct, THEN I would accept the burden of proof. But otherwise, I'll wait for proof in YOUR words that creationism is wrong.

The world was created by the Flying Spaghetti Monster. My Pastafarian neighbour told me so. I believe him because there is a picture showing that available online there:

I take it as an insult to my intelligence when a supposed adult can honestly say that I should believe that a magical being came down from space and created people out of mud with his breath, and then soon demanded that everyone worship him. I worship no one, especially one that leaves a book that directly contradicts any and all scientific evidence.
