on my way to India I am getting only one & a half day in Cairo, Egypt. Please guide me the places I must visit

I will be reaching Cairo at 6AM and my flight for onward journey is at 4PM next day. I am planning to go to the National Musium in the day and Nile Cruise in the evening. Next day I would like to go for window shopping and any other good place. please suggest. A million thanks in advance.

    U forgot the Pyramids!

(If you haven't seen them already)

Nearest shopping mall to the Airport (& actually newest & best) is City Centre in Heliopolis.. Any taxi driver can take u there.

    Other attractions are:

Azhar Park on Salah Salem road.. It is a v nice park with nice resturants, I can suggest u have Lunch in Studio Misr where u can get good tradional Kabab & Kofta.

El Gezira Tower, although not being taken care of, it one of the hightest buildings in Cairo, you can see all Cairo from ablove.. V nice view.. (Don't eat there!)

If interested in CHrisitian & Muslim arts, try the Coptic Museum in Old Cairo or the Islamic museum downtown.

If your visit was longer I wd have certainly advised u to go to Luxor & Aswan, try the cruise between them, Visit the best diving places on earth in Sharm el Sheikh & Hurgada, etc, etc, etc

The Young Egyptian group was formed in 1933 as a small, somewhat fascist party. Never a political force, it went through several transformations becoming the Nationalist Islamic Party in 1940 and the Socialist Labor Party after WW II. It was disbanded after the 1952 generals coup, but, believe it or not, another small group, reverting back to the name of the Young Egyptians emerged again in 1990. It wavered more towards nationalism than fascism and could never become a player in the major struggle between the secular state and fundamental Islam. While a number of general fascist principles may have been part of its platform, there was never any formidable connection to Mussolini and the Italian fascist movement. Remember that principally the Ottoman Empire and the British were principal occupying powers in Egypt; unlike Ethiopia & Libya.

There are couple of Malls right on the nile. They are amazing. They have everything. One of them is called "City Stars", best shopping ever. It also has a section "Khan el Khalily" where they sell perfumes, ancient egyptian artifacts, etc. Make sure to get some good egyptian food there. The pyramids is a must, and ride a camel, tons of fun :)

    dane's answer is great.

I just wanted to add that if you are interested in Fine Arts such as painting you can visit the Museum of Mohammah Mahmoud Khalil and his wife. He used to collect paintings and they are now displayed in what used to be his 3-storey house.

Just DON'T ask police men or cab drivers for direction!
