I received my birth certificate two weeks after filing for it..I then had to take it to the Social Insurance office and show them that I got the document and they gave me a number right off the bat! A few weeks later I got the card with the same number inscripted on it!

It really depends on where you live. In Los Angeles County, it took 3 weeks to get the social security card but 3 months for the county to record the birth. Only after the county recorded the birth were we able to get a copy of our child's birth certificate. If you need these papers urgently, like for a passport, they can rush the process or allow alternate equivolent papers.

If it seems to take longer than what the hospital told you, you can call your local county office or social security office to make sure that they've received your paperwork.

It depends where you live. My daughter was born October 17 and they sent me a "parent notice" which was a rough draft of the birth certificate about a week after she was born, I had to bring that to the registrars office (which I just did today) and pay $12 for a copy of the birth certificate. The social secuirty card took less than 2 weeks.

Where I live the official birth certificate is filed with the county courthouse, they sent me home with "one for show" for all three of my children. If you want the official one you need to get a copy of it from the court house and they will charge you for it, not sure how much, it varies for each state. My youngest (5 1/2 months) received his ss card approx. four weeks after coming home. The hospital where my children were born files for that for you. I am assuming since they had you fill out papers for it that your hospital does the same. If you haven't received it by say the tenth week I would contact your local ss office.

My baby was born on 11-16 and the hospital sent me home with a birth Cert. for show and then I applied for the original online and paid 10 for it and got it in the mail 2 days later. As far as the SS card I am not sure, I am still waiting on that one.

It took six weeks for the ssn card and about ten weeks before I got the birth cerficate. It depends on how busy the vital records office in your city as to how long you have to wait on that, but ssn card are usualy and standard six weeks.

Depends on what state you live in.(for the birth cert) I would call the City Hall and find out if they will be mailed or if you have to pay for them and pick them up. In WI you have to pay $13.00 for it!! For the SS Card...it comes in the mail like 2months after your child is born. Good luck!

My firs kid got BC at about 2 week and ss card about 4weeks, however my second got BC at 2 weeks and her ss card came today - she is almost 3 months. Guess it depends where they were born (both were born in different county).
