He probably enjoys the attention. Its feels better and its easier to let you keep liking him than to leave him......not that you're really together, but it gives him something to look forward to, especially on a bad day. If you want him to fall for you, pretend that you've moved on---you may just forget and do it for real. But, if you really must know, just ask him.

Most people need someone to confess to. And to make themselves feel better, they'd ask their confidente to keep it a secret. And the person in turn needs someone else to dump all that gossip on. He doesn't want to tell you right out and hurt your feelings.

i'm sorry but i don't think he likes you. or if you're a hopeful maybe he really does like you and you make him so nervous that he lies about it for his own sake.
