Need your help on horse names.?

I was given a horse 3 weeks ago. Someone that had her did not feed her and she is starved with ribs showing. She is the sweetest horse. Supposed to be 6 years old with papers through the quarter horse association, but all I know is that the former owner called her Missy. She doesn't seem to answer to it, but she's been put up in a stable for I don't know how long with very little contact with humans I'm sure.

She is now wondering around on 5 acres of land and loving it. I don't like the name Missy. I have a niece, Melissa that we call Missy. I think she deserves a better name. I haven't come up with anything that really appeals to me.

I thought about Miss Julie, Miss Scarlett, and Miss Caroline. These were names that came to mind and sounded kind of like Missy.

I'm open for suggestions. I thought by now that something would really hit me. I'd be glad to hear any of your ideas. I really like names that are different, but I'm stumped. Any ideas would be helpful.

We have a horse here that we rescued from an auction house. She is 16.2 hands and at the time that we got her she might have weighed 700 pounds, at first my kids all called her cinabon, don't ask I have no ideal where they got it, as the time went on and within a few months we had started to call her stormie because once she got the attention she needed and the food she came out like a storm and is now one of the best barrell horses and kids horses you could ever imagine considering where she started. All of our mares have different names we have Shylo, Cheyenne, Savanah and Kyla then of course Stormie.

How bout Miss Daisy? LOL!!!! I have always hated trying to just sit and think up a name for a horse! I usually wait and see if something that they do inspires a name that fits.

For example I bought a horse from a guy that he thought would be too much horse for me and I wouldn't get along with him but he liked me right away and even though the guy claimed he didn't like to be caught he let me catch him when he had no halter. I decided to try him out and we got along great so he decided to sell him to me. He had no name but after seeing how gentle he turned out with such a lively history I decided maybe he should be named Rusty. The name fit for awhile until my calm 2yr old grew to 16hands and 1100lbs! He has more spirit now for me, guess he just had to get used to me. Kept his name though as a reminder how ironic life can be.

You say your mare is "the sweetest" so why not call her sweetie or miss sweets? Or maybe Lucky would be a name suitable to her situation...lol

good luck to you, hope I helped a bit.

Miss Second Chance. Missy or Chance could be a barn name. I just like it because you definitely gave her a second chance for a much better life.

Whenever I get a new horse, a name always hits me straight away and sticks!

I recently bought a petite little mini mare who's name was Belinda, but someone I hated was named Belinda so I wanted to change it. I also wanted to keep it sounding similar so she would still respond. I changed it to Bella, but she is really fat with her foal, so I usually nickname her "Belly"!

For your horse, the first thing that came to me, which was nice but similar to Missy is "Mystique".

Here's a good site I found the other night that might also help: http://www.horsenamegame.com/

Good luck with your new friend, whatever name you decide!

hmm sounds like her life has been bad.

give her something pretty. I bet if the ones who mistreated her called her Missy she would be glad to not be called Missy in any form! Just drop it and start fresh. You might even try asking her. See if she responds to anything at all. (She is not deaf is she?)

Bell is pretty. Scarlet but people tend to shorten names and she would get called Scar. That is not pretty at all.

    Bonnie. Bon-Bon. Lady. Shiloe.

Here is a site with a ton of alphabetized horse names.

this site has Native American names.

We have rescued several horses. One of our horses was tied to a tree for 9 years, never allowed to move. When we got her she was so skinny it was very sad. We have had her now for about 6 years and she is doing great. She is a 40 year old morgan and is still running strong.

We named her Winema (why-knee-ma) meaning Female Cheif and Strong Woman. We call her Winny.

When I named my gelding (who I breed my mare for), I gave him names with meaning. Nick Pacemaker Wiatt.

Nick after the Sire. Pacemaker, since he was born the exact day my mom had her pacemaker put in her heart. Wiatt, after the famous outlaw as he holds that title very well lol. Call him wiatt for short.

All our horses came with the names they were known with and personality does go with it. However, we have had 1 horse that we got that had no name (unknown to those who were selling as they were into the buy/sell market b.s. aka: we rescued him from slaughter house to which he was headed).

H reminded us as a cookie as chocolate chips (flea bitten gray) all over his body. We named him cookie's n cream and it went with his looks. Called him "Tim Allen" sometimes (actor who grunts on the Home Improvement tv show) as cookie grunted like that when it was supplement time lol.

So, I say go with the horse's personality. I was once going to buy a mare, before I bought my mare, who was the sweetest thing with no name. So, I loved the name Amy and thought of calling her "Sweet Amy". Something simple, but meaningful.

Does she have a specific body trait or personality trati?

    Behavior pattern?

Blood line naming pattern? (example would be my mare Sire's side: His name is Johnny Evil. Foals produced before was Evil Eye, bar bully, Evils Baby, Johnny Bull. The Dam's side: Her name was Answers and Action AAA racetrack. Bar Deck, War bride, moon Dec, spotted bull. The sire carried a lot of name traits as I have a lot on my other horse's registrations. Especially when it comes to skipper W and Doc Bar and Three Bar blood lines).

I think you should get completely away from Missy and go with something like Precious or Spirit.
