What is the best season of Star Trek: The Next Generation?

I think it was the 3rd, maybe 4th season. ln the last year, it just got stupid, with character development to the Nth degree, girlish plots....Ugh.

But the season that the crew went back into time, to the 19th century, met Mark Twain and all, the episode where the crew encountered the Borg for the first time, and when Picard was kidnapped; also that year, in another episode, Picard is affected by a strange beam from a probe, and instantly lives an entire lifetime on a long dead planet, forgets all about the Enterprise...
