Dual boot PC?

As is stands now. No.

A dual boot computer must have two partitions. Each operating system will reside on it's own partition. If the computer has all of the disk space under one partition, you would have to get a utility to resize the partition to allow enough space for Windows XP.

The problem is that in order to upgrade you have to have a pre-existing installation. So you would need Windows 98 on the first partition and Windows 98 on the second partition. However, under the Windows 98 operating system this is not possible. Windows 98 must reside on the first partition only. Windows XP can reside on mulitple partitions. If you get a full version of Windows XP and a partition resizing utility, than you can accomplish your goal.

Once you have two partitions make sure you leave both file systems as FAT32 otherwise you will not be able to exchange files between the partitions.

all u ahve to do is, just make sure that u install xp afer u have installed 98, and do not format the hard drive to ntfs file sytem as u will have problem in win98 later on , xp detects the fat32 file system used by win98 so no probs on the xp side, when u install xp just select a different partion other than the one used by wibdows 98 to install the os.

Try this: use the fdisk command to partition your hard drive into two parts. Both should be FAT32. Setup your dual boot with two Win98 operating systems. Then, upgrade one of the Win98 partitions with Windows XP and upgrade the file system from FAT32 to NTFS (for speed and storage efficiency).

Yes, all you need is a location to store it.... They might even be able to share the same drive/partition. However, it is recommended that you install XP on a separate partition. XP by default would take over boot management with its boot loader and give you the option at startup of selecting either XP or Windows 98 to boot.
