It is a cruciferous plant that is indicated in anti-cancer diets. It also contains a chemical called indole-3-carbinol that is good for fighting herpes. The amount of this chemical is the same in an adult plant and a sprout, so you are better off to eat the sprouts to get more of the chemical. Also, all green plants contain other chemicals that are good for the body. There may also be advantages in the form of roughage, which are beneficial to the digestive tract, especially the intestines.

That should about cover what you need to know. One more thing is that broccoli is a high sulfur food. Sulfur burns fat. I have a metabolic issue that creates more sulfur so I have a hard time gaining fat. I tend to stay away from those foods, but it's beneficial in that regard for most people.

Broccoli has a crapload (pardon the really bad pun) of fiber in it, it will make you regular.
