What can I NOT send to a penpal in Norway?

Can I send packaged food items (cookies/candy), a cigar or a pack of cigarettes? Not wanting to send electronics, or alcohol. Can I mail canned soups/foods?

Apart from the items mentioned in the previous answer's list, you can send mostly anything. However, if sending cigarettes - one pack will be ok, whereas an entire carton might get you resp. your recipient in trouble. As for edible items: As long as it is canned and/or vacuum-packed it should not be a problem. Fresh produce (meat, cheese, sausage, fish) cannot be sent unless vacuum-packed.

When filling out the customs-declaration form (little green sticker) at the postal office, tick off the "gift"-box and list the contents of very small or no value. Otherwise, your recipient might be forced to pay Norwegian taxes on the contents of the parcel.
