Jose Guillen is the Mariners "impact" free agent acquisition?

Bill Bavasi is the worst GM in all of baseball!

It's a really poor move, particularly for the price ($5 million base salary). The Mariners should have brought in a bargain right fielder who can thrash lefties to platoon with Snelling or Jeremy Reed. (of course, this all but guarantees Ichiro's move to center). Despite being a righty, Guillen struggled against lefties in 2005. Of course, he struggled against everyone in 2006.

Craig Wilson has killed lefties to the tune of a .938 OPS in his career. He's a solid right fielder, if not particularly rangy. He will probably make a similar salary to what Seattle agreed to with Guillen.

Jay Payton has a career .806 OPS against lefties (.754 OPS against righties) which is good but not great - but he's a team player, can play any outfield position, and should make the same or less than what Seattle has agreed to with Guillen.

I wouldn't have any problem with another team picking him up for $2 or $2.5 million plus incentives to be a fourth outfielder with upside potential of 15 to 20 HRs, but the fit just isn't right here.

lol - Jose Guillen is poison! I agree with an earlier answer that GM's need to focus on the chemistry of the team. The only franchise I can think out of that publicly showed displays of hostility toward teammates were the Championship A's of the 70's. But those teams fed off of the anger and let it out on the field. It fit the makeup of the team.

Yeah - Jose Guillen "impact" player - lol!

White & Sanders palms down have been the main suitable Brees is probable the subsequent, bc he grew to become that group into between the main suitable offenses the previous few years, and a SB victory for a traditionally undesirable group Gannon and Warner the two got here in and led their communities to Superbowls, the two lost however

Amazing huh? Remember when they didn't let Lou do what he wanted with the club and he left? I'm sure all the Cubs moves this off-season has a little to do with Lou. Don'tcha think?

The Mariners front office has been awful for years. As a baseball fan living in Seattle it makes me sad.

Good luck to ya! Seattle fans are lucky that you will only have to put up with Guillen's antics for only one year!

He may be a good signing, but is hardly an impact player. I agree with you totally.
