What you need to get is a Router. 2 computers cannot have the same IP address. But if you route one IP address you can connect alot of PC's to one internet connection.

None of these people actually answered your question. Sometimes getting a wireless card for the PC is not practical as laptops can be moved around.
1) Get connected on the laptop to the internet.
2) Right click on the wireless connection in the task-bar, select properties.
3) Click Advanced, then "Share this connection" use the basic defaults.
4) You may need a special Cat5 cable called a "crossover" cable to connect your laptop to your desktop. But try a regular ethernet cable first.
5) Set your desktop to obtain an IP address automatically.
This works pretty good. except for the following..
1) Winxp connection sharing usually assigns an IP of 192.168.0.1 to your sharing/desktop. This IP is usually the same one that most routers assign and can cause all kinds of network mayhem. To correct this, right click on the LAN connection on the laptop AFTER you set up connection sharing, then click Properties, TCP/IP properties, set the IP and gateway to something like 192.168.5.1 or you could simply change the IP of your router to 192.168.5.1
2) When you plug your laptops ethernet jack into another network (like school or work) it will not get an IP address because you told it to use 192.168.5.1.. you will have to undo the connection sharing to use the ethernet on another network with the laptop.. hope this makes sense

You can do that, it is called Internet Connection Sharing, but that is the hard way to do it, since you apparently already have a wireless "access point". (It does NOT care how many computers it connects to!!)
A much better way is to install a "wireless" card in your PC, and set the connection up directly from the PC to the access point.
If it is to far away to "see" the access point, you can get a "range extender", (really just a "relay" unit), that will let the two "reach" each other.
You want to do things the simplest way when you can. Fewer things to go wrong.

i'm not really well-versed into networking and sharing of internet, but i suggest you to buy an internet adapter, the size of a thumbdrive (mine is LevelOne) and attached it to your pc and install the driver. Your wireless will detect the wireless network , and then you can use the internet via pc. There's no need to have a middle medium (your laptop) to connect to the wireless, because i don't think it would work.

Easy Answer!
It's called an ad hoc connection.
Put a USB receiver on your desktop and let windows set it up.
Make sure windows on your laptop sets the internet to share.
PCI versions are also available.
I recommend you put your computer by the internet connection and setup a wireless router so you can use your laptop all over the place, however.

Yes you can. Simply purchase a wireless adapter for your desktop computer. It can then connect to the same wireless network that your laptop connects to.
An example of such an adpter is this one:

you have to bridge the Wlan and the Lan connection on the Laptop,.. so the pc will be able to connect to the internet over the laptop,.. should work

It would be eassier to buy a USB wirless adapter, plug it in install the software and you're all set
