Gradually. When stability is the norm and when the local government is able to stand alone and handle it's own issues. Doubtful we will ever leave in total. We still have troops in Korea, all over Europe and the Asian countries. When the time comes, we will leave behind a provisional force to help maintain order and insure we have a strong presence in the region. This is nothing new when you have been around as long as I have. Beats having Iran watching over Iraq. (Which they are trying to do now)

The democrat plan is to get the troops out today. That is according to what at least 42% of the American public voted for. Never mind that it would destabilize the middle east, disrupt the supply of oil, sky rocket the price of gas exponentially, cause economic disaster across the globe and provide a safe haven for terrorist to launch attacks against us. The American public is so wise aren't they? FELLOW TEXAN

Don't. The U.S. should set up a 50,000 man base/police and military academy/university to train Iraqi and Afganistans in nation building.

The insurgency all dead, a new gov. elected( Maliki sucks, and seems to be a traitor to his own people ), and no exterior threats to Iraq are emminent.

Now. Just leave. No timetable, no phased withdrawl, just go. As long as you keep holding your child's hand, they will never learn to cross the street by themselves. If your Mom and Dad keep paying your bills you will never learn to pay them. They have had 3 years to get it together over there. We are accomplishing nothing except losing lives. Just go.
