Well, my first bit of advice will be for you to not pick up women at the local pub. Find them somewhere else. Then, just be yourself and talk to women. Show them the real you and the will see that your a great guy. Do not try to be something your not. When you find the right woman you will get less nervous each time you two date. You can start a conversation about anything and just let the conversation go from there.

Im 40 as well, so this will work for you too.

I have been dating after a 5 year LTR. I have failed misreably, dirty truck, ask her if she wants a shot, end the date to soon. etc. etc.

the point is you wont perfect it, until you practice it.

I've been in your boat before and I have found that you need to brace yourself for a totally different mindset from even a couple of years ago. Go slow and set some definite goals that you want in your "person of interest" and don't settle for less.

try internet dating. if you're up to it. or those set ups during lunch. whatever you do don't just stay home moping around. have fun with it.

Always give it up on the first date - he'll respect you more in the morning.
