Interesting question. I like the answer "Human Race." Statistically speaking there has been a rise in new infections among African-Americans in recent years. As with any demographic statistic this will change with time. The fluxuations that you see are based on factors like preventive education, poverty level, individual education, etc. This does mean that any one race is always at risk. Remember that HIV/AIDS used to be called GRID (Gay Related Immunodecifiency). In the early 80s at the onset of the pandemic, it was a disease typically found among gay white males. With community education, the numbers dropped thereby shifting the rate of infection to a different population (IV Drug users), so on and so forth. While it is impossible to say for certain, I would venture a guess that the African nations (individuals living in Africa) have been hardest hit. Poverty levels are high and access to medical resources is extremely low. With relief efforts focused in Africa, it is hoped that we will see a change. The next trouble areas that have been identified are India and China, two of the most populated countries in the world.

well I've heard HIV started in Africa.
But it is spreading in the US very rapidly..my step-mom works in the hospital and has seen more and more cases lately.
I dont think it's anymore common in one race though.

not trying to be racist are anything of that nature, but i was once told that white people at one point and time were most common with HIV; however, i feel as if african americans have it most common because alot of black teenagers are having unprotected sex and they get HIV and some become pregnant passing it on to there child
