Do you live in Waikiki?

Can you recommend a surfing school? My friend and I are going to Waikiki for spring break, and she has her heart set on taking some surfing lessons, so I thought I would get her some reservations for some lessons as a christmas present. Any specific ones that are best?

No, I don't live in Waikiki.

You don't go to a 'school', there are booths set up here and there along the beach where they offer lessons right then and there. I think it's like $75 for a few hours. There are other things like the water trikes that you can rent too, think those were $50 for an hour.

Rent a car and drive around the island...explore a little (it only takes about an hour to drive from one end to the other) You can rent a car for about $60 a day...come on- it's vacation in Hawai'i!

I live in Hawaii, and go to Waikiki often. Most of the stands set up on Waikiki Beach teach surfing. I personally think you could find better surfing elsewhere, because Waikiki is so crowded and the waves aren't very strong. It still is one of the top spots for surfing, so there is a lot of places that teach well. Most of the teachers are local and have been surfing their whole life. Most of the schools offer private and group lessons. You can probably get private lessons- just you and your friend.

P.S. Reserve spots a day in advance. Better safe than sorry!

an excellent type of folk stay in Waikiki at the same time as they first flow the following from the mainland. some stay there for years. yet extra frequently after a 12 months or 2 human beings lose interest of the vacationer ecosystem & flow to factors of the island that are extra interior sight in personality. that's no longer a foul position to initiate life in Hawaii (I did), notwithstanding it replaced into no longer an area i ought to really positioned down roots & experience at abode.

I don't live in Wakiki now, but I have, as well as on the Big Island. I recommend the stand at the Outrigger Reef Hotel, as you can sign up for surf lessons, outrigger canoe rides, catamaran rides and other tours, and they are very reasonable and friendly. Very professional and knowledgable.

You can book ahead with Barefoot's Cashback Tours. They offer a surf school with firefighter instructors.
