It used to be said it should be one month's wages but now I believe it's said to be three months wages! However, it's up to you - how much you have to spend, how much you want to spend, and what the ring you/she likes costs. Look around at styles to see what prices are and budget accordingly - if I'd been told I only had a £200 to spend on a ring I would have picked something I liked, if I was told I could have £5,000 again, I would pick something I liked. Sometimes it isn't about how much it costs. Have fun shopping - hope you find what you/she wants for a good price.

We didn't spend a whole lot on the engagement ring befcause we'd rather save up that money towards a house. We're getting married on February 14th. I only wanted one ring to be my engagement ring and also my wedding ring. So we've decided on a simple diamnond band.

With insurance on the ring my husband-to-be spend about $800 for a 1/4 carat princess cut diamond channel band in a 18k white gold

I am very happy with my ring and i'm glad we didn't spend a fotune on it. Like i said we want to buy a house after we get married!

Cardinal rule is that the man spends three months salary. I believe that may be too much. My engagement ring was a ring I already, I inherited, so we added some stones to it and that was it. My first marriage I was in the Army overseas and he bought a inexpensive ring because thats all we could afford. If I were to do it again I would find what I want and make payments to pay it off. This is a ring that will be on your hand forever.

Well.. it depends on the girl I think.. I'm still waiting for an engagement ring from my bf. But I wouldn't want a big rock on my little finger. it would look hideous. Something that suits me and will look good on me is important, not the price tag...

my bf spent less than $800.00 for both engagement ring and wedding band and they are beautiful. This three month or four month salary thing is just silly.

I told him I didnt care if it was a 50.00 ring off QVC, I just want to get married.

If you really want to get married the ring does not matter.

the engagment ring was 8000. Why...because that is what I wanted.

We bought a house a few months before the wedding so I picked out a small diamond (1/3 carat). It turns out that the diamond is IF (internally flawless) and was a great deal for what my husband paid for it.

My engagement ring was 10,000...because it was the one I wanted. I can't (and wouldnt) sell it....but its still a good investment because I believe this ring will eventually be passed down to my grand daughter, and to her grand daughter, and to her grand daughter...

well, i recently went looking for a ring that i like per my boyfriend's request and the one i found that i absolutely loved and was perfect to me was about $2,500. and ive heard it is suppose to be equivalent to 2 month's salary. but this ring is just about the amount of one month of his salary, so i guess he got lucky lol.
