Does it annoy you when you answer a question and he/she who asked doesn't bother to pick a best answer?

It really gets on my nerves, especially when I've spent my time on researching the answer.

Update:

To all those who said "they're not in it for the points".

I like to think that getting best answer is more like an acknowledgement of the work you have put it actually bothering to research/answer their question.

When it goes to vote, I feel a little gutted even if I have been voted as having the best answer.

Update 2:

Robster, I've had a look at your answers; your lack of intellect is astounding.

Update 3:

To all those wondering if I am going to choose a best answer, just look at my past questions, every best answer has been chosen by me.

It certainly does. It happens one awful lot in Homework Help. You get a demand for answers (which they don't get from me) and then absolutely no acknowledgement at all.

I don't see how you can forget either - as you are sent an e-mail saying that the period for answering your question is coming to an end.

I know it's all a bit of fun most of the time - but there are people who want to know things that do require research and it would be nice to at least have a "thanks" in whatever form for the answer.

It does - sometimes. But I let it go. You got to keep in mind that the world is made up of all sorts. Some will be too lazy to do very simple search for the most basic question. Some will be so lazy they are asking homework question they should do themselves. There will be people here who were not brought up to be thankful or considerate.

If you spent a lot of time doing the research for a serious question but no answer even got picked as best by asker, at least you have got something out of it - new knowledge!

The real question is...having asked this question, and many people spent the time answering it, will YOU now pick a best answer?

Why should I let the questioner get under my skin?

I have asked questions and gotten good answers and thanked the party. I have asked even harder futurists questions and I have gotten total #*!# for an answer. The "community" decided the non answer on that one. Remember, these Q&As are being recorded and you could be improving humankind's knowledge base, isn't that enough of a reward? Try the site below if you feel you have rudeness issues or look under my answers to a previous cyberpsychology question for a much more indepth reply.

Yes it does because you then get some horrible little fat whinger going on there using his many different user names trying to vote himself best answer, reporting all the ones that have got more votes than him for made up violations and then getting the ten points as if it is a big prize. No doubt another violation for this reply.

It doesn't get on my nerves coz I realize maybe they wanted even more answers to think upon or maybe they were at work and not counting down the seconds till the question ends. On the other hand, it is disappointing. But think of it this way, as if it's a friend you've given your well thought out information and opinions to, and now they have to do with it what they will. We don't get the bonus points for that help in real life.

It doesnt really bother me. I do this for fun and to help people, not for points.

I understand where Faerie is coming from, but you have the understand that the best answer is not necessarily the one that gives all the facts, or even answers the question, but the one that appeals the most to the person who asked, for whatever reason that might be.

After all, you probably won't pick this as best answer cos i dont agree with you!

Maybe none of the answers are suitable? I've had a question with only one answer and that was incorrect, so I didn't choose a correct answer, although the community did.

I agree. in accordance to my journey right here I frequently only answer a question and bypass decrease back to it if I replied it to my perfect understanding, so if I even ought to vote for a perfect answer I likely ought to by no skill word.

Sometime if the asker doesn't really know the answer how they can choose one?

By letting the public to choose you get the 'best' answer for things you really didn't know.

Not really, but what if nobody answers the question? I asked something a while ago and not a single person actually read the question, so I didn't pick a best answer.
