In terms of the immigration debate, what relevance does the phrase 'selling out' have?

I just read an article talking about how the state of Texas has benefited economically from illegal aliens working there. What's your take on this?

The phrase "selling out" seems very apt to me. I also read this article and I feel that this article was bought and paid for by a business interest in Texas (maybe even government associated) and was planted to try to place a positive light on illegal immigration. I think we can expect to see more of these same types of articles between now and the 2008 election with only slight changes in area and numbers, but it will be basically the same article. They think the average American citizens are idiots who cannot even estimate themselves the calculations of the COSTS of illegal immigration that are so conveniently left out of the article. Just watch.....

    Hmmm ... Interesting Question

As Far As This Article Is Concerned

    The FEDERAL Government

    Is "Selling Out" The State(s)

    And The State(s)

Are "Selling Out" The Local Jurisdictions

    "Undocumented immigrants

    produced $1.58 billion

    in state revenues,

    which exceeded the $1.16 billion

    in state services they received.

    However,

local governments bore the burden of $1.44 billion

    in uncompensated health care costs

and local law enforcement costs not paid for by the state,"

I Think The Answer To Your Question

    Is Best Explained

    In Reagan's "Trickle Down Economics"

Except You Have To Stand On Your Head While Reading It

    Or

Start Calling It "Trickle UP Economics"

Some business owners there may have benefitted. Look back on the Fed statements about how workers are getting a smaller part of gross domestic product than at any time since World War II. It isn't the workers getting any benefit at all, and it is their schools and hospitals being ruined.

However, the story was based on a Pew Hispanic Center study I haven't read yet, and I typically have problems with the basis for their studies, so I can't really comment yet.

Our President has sold us up the river and hopefully this is a wake up call to conservatives. The guest worker program is a DISASTER waiting to happen. One of President Reagan's mistakes in 1986 was to give blanket amnesty to illegals prior to sealing up the border and overhauling INS. It was stated that by doing this it would curb and put an end to illegal immigration. Since then it has doubled. Now we are seeing the same thing all over again.

Current numbers from the census bureau and foun the following. It costs this country 20 billion dollars a year in illegal immigration. 35% of LEGAL immigrants are on welfare or receive some form of government assistance. Like many say if I were a Mexican living in Mexico I would be on the next bus here to America. When is America going to wake up and understand that current immigration brings unskilled, uneducated workers who NEED government assistance. Do they want to work? Yes and no. Yes there is no doubt about it that those who wish to work bust their butts in working but for below average wages. This myth that they pay taxes is also false. Those in the lower tax brackets pay no federal income taxes. Most have no health coverage and use hospitals for common illnesses. Guess who picks up the tab? I say also no they do not want to work because current numbers would support this, the 35% LEGAL immigrants currently on welfare. The new Mexican president is probably jumping for joy over this. He gets to dump his unskilled poor labor force on us and then reap the rewards when these people dump money back into his economy. It is a win win for this guy. I still do not understand why America appeases Mexicos corrupt government.

This myth that immigrant workers take jobs the rest of Americans is totally false. Remember the great depression in the 20's? A time in which American workers were killing each other to find work? There is also a myth that immigrants are paying their share of taxes. This is also false. Illegal immigrants do not pay taxes. Furthermore, of those immigrants, LEGAL immigrants cost this country more in services rendered than what they put into the system. To save myself making such a broad accusation without proof I will provide you links of these facts. I will first provide you a quote from this website and then you may click on the link to read the website further. "For instance, in 1996 legal immigration alone cost Floridians $6 billion, up 77% from 1992. Legal immigration cost Texans $7 billion, New Yorkers $14 billion and Californians an amazing $28 billion. These are the compounded costs of Public Schools, Bilingual Education, Medicaid, AFDC, Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, Housing Assistance, Criminal Justice, as well as job loss by Americans and other programs, for a total cost to American taxpayers of $136 billion dollars." http://www.carryingcapacity.org/100000.html

I will provide you with one more quote and link. I hope that you take these facts seriously. "research suggests that "between 40 and 50 percent of wage-loss among low-skilled Americans is due to the immigration of low-skilled workers. Some native workers lose not just wages but their jobs through immigrant competition. An estimated 1,880,000 American workers are displaced from their jobs every year by immigration; the cost for providing welfare and assistance to these Americans is over $15 billion a year." http://www.cairco.org/econ/econ.html

Cheap labor...it started with the black slaves, Chinese migrants, Italians, Irish, etc. who came to America. American big businesses wants cheap labor and they will spend millions in politicians campaign funds to get it. "Sell Outs" in my opinion is pulling a Judas or Benedict Arnold who betrayed the colonies...all these politicians are traitor's to this country who abide and grant amensty to illegal aliens. Having everything translated in spanish does not help them assimilate either. I wonder how the Asians feel who come here for work or to study(from China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, etc.) who have no one to help translate many day to day things and people bending over to help them? They assimilate (for the most part). I lived in southern California for many years so I know about porous borders. I think it is sad that Asians who go through the trouble to learn English must now compete for jobs that many employers want bi-lingual (English/spanish)....it is crazy! I do not think it is Americans hate mexicans....it is that we are being invaded and politicians are ramming them down our throat so to speak. It is overwhelming! How many countries would put up with masses of Americans who suddenly up and illegally went into another country? We would be deported in a instant! It is a sad time in America, a very sad time!
