Do do you speak, read, and write French fluently?

I have wanted to learn French for years. I speak, read, and write Spanish very well in addition to my native language, English. I've bought a couple of different programs to help me learn French, but find I'm not motivated to use them because of their repetitiousness. For a short time this year, I had a friend in Belgium who was emailing in French, her language, but hasn't replied to my emails for some time now. I seriously want to learn French and get really motivated when I have someone to exchange ideas with in that language. I am very much a beginner. Is anyone interested and willing to communicate by email, later in chats, in French, helping me to learn the language?

Not yet. But i'm close. I suggest you drown yourself in it.

http://www.yahoo.fr/ Listen to french music and news. And pretend like you don't know english. if you compare french to english all of the time, it'll be like having to drive your car using sticks that you're holding instead of your own hands and feet. You need a direct connection to it, not a filter through another language. After all you didn't need to know a language to learn english. It's the same way with this. The fastest way to learn a language is to learn to think in it. I'd use the power of personal expectation to help this along as well. If you speak with real francophones who expect you to know French like they do, that expectation will promote your own subconscious to believe you know it, or should know it, because they do. It's not an easy concept to explain but trust me, it's there nonetheless. If you'll check my history, you'll notice i did the same thing. I answer french questions as well as english ones. Some days I make them french days. After I get home from my day of business, I forget english and total, and try to think, count, and speak only french from then til i went to sleep. Only french music as well. Anything that would've been english in language to me that night, becomes french. It'd be a good step in your progress. All you really have to do is focus really hard and make a strong effort to take in the language as they're saying it and to fully comprehend it for all it's worth.

You could try watching a few french programs until the words actually start to mean something to you

Thinking in french means talking to people. Might I suggest a bit of chess (echecs) or Pool (Billard) while schmoozing with the local french speakers on this site:
