Anyone had reactions to Nonoxynol-9?

Recently, I messed up with my birth control pill so I have been using VCF (a vaginal controceptive film containing Nonoxynol-9). My husband is having burning in his penis after sex and has to urinate a couple times to stop the burning and I tend to get dry during intercourse. Has anyone else had these or simmilar reactions using products containing Nonoxynol-9?

I have used condums with it and my husband and I had a simular experience. I think some people are just more sensitve to things than others. I have weird reactions to everything. Even ibprophen makes me very sleepy.

Yes, nonoxynol-9 commonly causes irritation to the penis or vagina. It's reasonably effective as a contraceptive in combination with barrier methods, but the rate of side effects means it's not for everyone. If you are using a product which includes nonoxynol-9 primarily for STI protection - don't. The risk of irritation actually increases your chances of contracting any STIs that are around.

You're best using (non nonoynol 9) condoms till you sort out your oral contraceptive.

    I have had 2 reactions:

    1. My penis burns after sex.

    2. My partner ended up pregnant.

Use both N-9 and a condom.
