Why did Donald Rumsfeld visit the american forces in Iraq without picking up a gun himself?

Politicians love to talk the talk, but few - like John McCain -have the guts to walk the walk.

Rumsfeld is just like Bush. They both are delusional, in that they think (or seem to think) that they are in a John Wayne Western movie.

But, they both draw the line when it comes to them personally facing the enemy, any enemy. They are cowards in regards to their personal commitments and endangerments. But they are so .... brave when it comes to spilling the blood of soldiers.

Impeach Bush, Bring criminal charges against Rumsfeld and Chaney, ..... and tell Chaney's wife to keep her big mouth shut.

Re-elect Bill Clinton, he is a slick willy, and and a rascal, and a liar, but at least he cannot be bought by lobbyists. And he loves America. Of course he is a crook, but he is our crook. And most importantly, he is not stupid like little George Bush.

PS: Have you noticed? Rumsfeld has never visited the streets of Iraq. He simply sneaks in and out to a protected Zone surrounded by a multitude of security guards. When he says he has visited Iraq, he really means that he has visited the Bagdad Airport Marine Base in Iraq. What a sham!

Hello JJ, I do not hate Bush. I really, really don't. I simply think that he should be committed to an insane asylym. Why? It seems that everything he does or says is rather delusional.- to put it mildly. Now, about Chaney, I think he is an evil person.

Are you refering to the fact that he did not face combat like McCain? Of course, Rumsfeld was too young for Korea (21 was the legal military age at that time). He was born in July 9, 1932, so you do the math. Also, he was too old to be drafted (I think the oldest draft age is 26). He was an Illinois congressman from 1963-1969 and Nixon aide. By the way, Rumsfeld did campaign for withdrawl of troops from Vietnam within the Nixon administration causing Nixon (in an audio clip) to say, "Let's dump Rummy," and sending him to NATO or elsewhere away from influence. However, I don't really know the story behind McCain who I understand was tortured.

Now, I am wondering, "Are you saying that Rumsfeld does not have the right to visit them because he does not have military experience?" What are you trying to get across? What does military experience have to do with visiting? Anybody, including Bill Clinton, a Vietnam draft dodger, should have the right to visit them. I think he did this to boost the morale of the troops who are in a troubled situation and show that he is doing his job by CHECKING the ACTION there.

Actually, he did carry a gun, BIG ONES from 1954 to 1957. Yes, he was a Navy pilot who flew planes carrying missles. So, technically, he did.

Now, I could be wrong somewhere-to be fair.

Rumsfeld has thought all along he is infallible. He felt by visiting them, he was encouraging them.

But, why in the world did he go on this last trip--he has really messed up in Iraq; no one wanted to see him. Why not just go off somewhere and hide behind a rock?

It's about time "somebody" stopped "picking up guns" What's happening is wrong.

I'd be kind of nervous around Donny, with a gun in his hand.

Good thing that he did not, there has been more than enough death and injury from "friendly fire", I wish he would go deer hunting with Cheney.
