I am upgrading my ATI 9550 AGP graphics card and have two options - Nvidia 6600 and Ati x1300 both 256mb.?

Of those two the nVidia is better, based on the specs, and it is an upgrade over what you currently have. As for what to look for, clock speed, pixel pipelines, memory speed, memory interface, and finally size of memory.

ive used both brands of cards myself for many years.. and in my opinion the ATI seems to be the one im partial too.

nvidia worked fine.. but it always seemed to have driver issues( something ATI doesnt suffer from)

as far as your upgrade.. you have to ask yourself... is the card doing what you are askling of it?... while playing games.. is their lag at high resolutions? does the screen look clear? and probably the most important question... and i willing to accept the problems that sometimes occur when swapping cards out to gain a half a percent of speed..

bottom line... if yer happy with it now...and its not broken... leave it alone..

both have a different architecture for it's GPU

I had the 6600GT

and i only had good experiences

it can play any game up to Battlefield 2

that means no BF2142, Oblivion, other extremely high end games.

but Battlefield2 is pretty high up there, i cna play it on all high graphics as well.

i got 2 7800GTs though

they work well

Well, if i were u i would go for nividia. because its supports all games and is really good im using 500mb nividia gcard.
