Has Chrysler Killed Jeep?
Is it just me or is Jeep dead? To me it started with dumping the Cherokee in 2001 in favor of the Liberty. (Side note the new 2008 Liberty is a reworked/refaced Dodge Nitro.) Now there is a Compas(Dodge Caliber), the Patriot (front wheel drive) And the bigger soccer mom friendly mini van V6 powered Jeep Wrangler.
A Jeep (I'm talking orig open air type vehicle) is a vehicle that when you take it off road one can hose it off inside and out. It is a vehicle that the owner can work on and modify him/herself w/out an advance degree in enginering from Brown.
I'm not saying that the won't Wrangler be a good off vehicle. I just think that none off roaders shouldn't have such a big influence on how the JEEP should ride or if it should have all the creature feature as the H2 or H3( over priced Tahoe and Cayan).
Then there is Chryslers stupid "Trailrated" badge. Marketers suck! Is your Jeep better than my jeep because it has a badge? No! Its just a sticker!

I believe 2006 will be called the last year of the REAL Jeep. The new JK (the first model that didn't end in J and there hasn't been 26 models) Wrangler is the first public offering jeep that is TWO WHEEL DRIVE! The Compass and Patriot are front wheel drive with optional AWD. Yuck ;-(
Chrysler killed off arguably the most bullet proof modern motor, the 4.0, for a V6 based on the Caravan engine. Before people jump on me about the motor issue understand that a 100000 mile 4.0 that was well maintained is not uncommon and that off-roaders and even racers use it. It's easy to work on and it's easy to modify.
The original trailrated badge meant that the vehicle was able to cross the Rubicon Trail unmodified. So many things have crossed the Rubicon that now it's probably been flattened to the point a Volkswagon Beetle can cross it.
Styles change and chrysler has to change with the times. I think the new Jeep's front flares look absurdly large and the continously ever shrinking grill looks dumb, but that is a styling choice (it also makes it impossible to swap in a 4.0, no room) A friend of mine measured and he says the Hemi will fit so expect a V8 Hemi Unlimited in the future.
Did Chrysler kill Jeep? No, but we are witnessing a good S&M strangulation.

Jeep sales have climbed for YEARS, Jeep reliability has increased. There are still wranglers available. the market is a great deal larger then in the years past. You can still hose out the Wrangler just move the floor mat and move the drain plug. The new Wrangler has a top which decrease's theft/vandalism. and maintains open air ability. Although these ride smoother, they are STILL off road capable. Wake up and face 2006/2007. As for the badge Trail Rated? Its as meaningfull as GMC Professional Grade. You can drive a Trail rated jeep up to the windows in water and no leaks. THATS Trail Rated! Jeep is a BRAND a single Vehicle. As for H2/H3 that would be the Grand Cherokee and Commander. NOT a WRANGLER

Since Chrysler took over Jeep, the Jeep has gone steadily downhill. But then again, Chrysler does not make any really good products - they just market gimmics. To put that slightly differently, Chrysler sells hype, illusion and fad. If you want a real vehicle be it a car, truck, 4X4 or whatever, stay away from the whole Daimler Chrysler line. That is my opinion, and the Jeep comparison comes from a 1952 army surplus Jeep that has been in the family since 1960, has been abused often and still keeps coming back for more. So it has no A/C, so what? It starts first try every time, and if you want to cool off, fold the roof down and drive flat out - the whole 58 MPH lol.

sure they did, the picture of they killed Plymouth and AMC. IMO, the authentic Jeep is the only which's open-air/convertible accurate type. so some distance as i comprehend they have not killed that express one....yet. circumvent will be next in line to die. The dumbest bypass to this aspect replaced into to delete the Neon in want of the popular. because it stands now Chrysler does no longer have a very gasoline effectual vehicle..(ie receives 30 or extra mpg contained in the city). The high quality maxes out at about 29 and the PT Cruiser receives about 24/25 contained in the authentic international with an automated. To the guy who reported "engaged on your own vehicle is going away."...i'd like you to inform that to the human beings around the following who stress older or vintage autos and others who restore autos for a interest. In my section i'm starting up to be certain more and more older autos on the line particularly than new ones. for many human beings a sparkling or more recent vehicle is only a luxury they could be able to't somewhat have the funds for.

If it wasn't for Chrysler, Jeep would have died a long time ago. I know the current "soft-roader" line-up doesn'r appeal to Jeep faithful, but the auto industry is so competitive that the DaimlerChrysler execs felt the need to have a product at every market level.
(FYI, Dodge Nitro is based on the Liberty, not the other way around.
