Go buy the book: What to expect the first year.
This is written by the same writers of What to expect when your expecting. They have a wonderful list of questions and other things to keep an eye out for when looking.
I.E.
What is your opinion about breastfeeding?
Do you cook and clean your own home? (Is this done while watching the children?)
Is the care provider in good health? (Does she look like she can pick the child up w/o straining her back?)
And the basics:
Do you have BLS? (CPR) Health and Safety? Licensed? (Read up!!!)
Visuals:
Does the caretaker pay attention to your child?
Is there an interest?
Does she seem fair?
Also...some quick searches on the web will give you some other really great questions! GL!!

The best question to ask the potential nanny is for references and phone numbers to do a back ground check. Anyone good, and that is qualified for the job of taking your children's life's in their hand's will not only expect this but will encourage you to do so. Also, because there are children involved, you have to do your part as an protective parent at any cost and research her public records and find out "who" your leaving your children with. good luck. :)

references? background check? drugs? driving history? cpr/first aide certified? water saftey? diseases? go into great detail and don't miss a thing. be sure to get all checks... it's around $15 for driving record... and go toyour city cuircuit clerk for and legal matters they may be involved with.. see the certifications card personnally and make sure they are current if they are close to expiration request her to take the courses now. ask if random drug tests would be ok( they are only 20-30 dollars at drug stores and test for everything).. I would act as if she's joining the FBI just because they are your kids your world.

Refrences refrences refrences. Can't say that enough. Don't be someones first for this. Let someone else be unwise enough to make that mistake. Choose some with expierience and completely spotless refrences.

Ask her if sh has a crack habit or if she has ever beaten a child.
Source(s): Show her a picture of your husband an ask her if he made any advances on her if she would go for it
