Windows XP boot problem?

When XP Home edition starts up, it runs through the booting process until the screen where it offers a choice Windows XP Home or Windows XP Home with the count down. The count down takes place and when it gets to 0, it freezes. Where to start looking?

Have you ever tried to install a fresh installation of Win XP Home besides an old installation of Win XP Home?

This, for sure, creates conflicts between both of them!!!!!

I suggest you do the following steps:

    1) Connect your HDD to another "Healthy" PC, and take all the data you want from your harddisk. (Please have someone proffecional to do this. If you try this, and do a small mistake, this could erase the data from any of the HDs, Damage any of them, damage the power supply of the new PC, or even damage its motherboard!!!!!)

    2) Format your HDD entirely (so that you make sure no sign of any of the 2 OSs stays on your PC).

    3) install ONE clean edition of windows.

    4) connect your harddisk, again, to the other PC to take your files back.

    Good Luck ;)

    Hi Mikel,

You mentioned two entries of windowXP home, and the one that does not boot is the default. Does the other installation work? If you choose the other entry by pressing the down arrow key on your keyboard when the menu shows up.
