Several years ago, when my son was 6 years old and had just visited with his aunt who gave him a dinosaur for Christmas. It made noises and was quite large. It was my son's most prized possession. We were traveling by train and while awaiting the train a man came up and asked if we would tell his cousin and her child where to go when we got to our final destination. They didn't speak much English as they were here from Thailand. Anyway, it was clear they didn't have much. The young boy took an interest in the dinosaur and was just staring at it and then whispering to his mom. Out of the blue my son gave it to the child and said , "Merry Christmas, you can have it."
I told him that he didn't have to do that ; he could have just let him play with it for a bit and then get it back. He then proceeded to tell me, " I have more toys mommy, he didn't have anything."
Through the years this particular child of mine has demonstrated his generosity of spirit in many ways. So much so that we were worried that he didn't think he had a right to have stuff. It isn't so.
He is just very considerate of others feelings and loves to make people happy. He taught me something that day as well. A gift given should be given with the other person's interest in mind and come from our heart and not of our surplus otherwise it isn't really giving.

I live in a very small town, less than a 1000 people, so we are all pretty tight. At my church we just hired a new minister. He and his wife have 6 foster children. They are all from one family, 6 little girls (their parents were meth users) ages from 9 to 3. They are absolutely adorable. Most of them were meth babies. They do not know how to act to so much offered to them. They don't ask for anything, not even from Santa.
Well, I write letters to children from Santa and I wrote each one of them a letter from Santa and the joy that shone in their eyes was worth more than anything else. They could not believe that Santa knew where they lived and what they wanted for Christmas. I personalized each and every letter and their little eyes lit up so big, it brought tears to my eyes. They couldn't believe that Santa would write to them.
They are so deserving of the love, kindness and a family that will let them be children and of Gods Love.
It brings so much joy to me to do this small thing that brought so much joy to these little girls who has never asked to be in the situation they are in. We are trying to raise enough money to buy them some clothes and presents for Christmas. It takes something like this to make a town come together and show just how wonderful they can be and how we take care of our own.
So do something wonderful for someone, young or old, it will bring so much joy to you during this holiday season and all year.
