No, doctors don't live longer. They are generally suffering of stress and overloaded with work. They know the benefit of a healthy life on health and longevity, but they tend not to apply it to themselves (e.g. many smoke and they don't exercise a lot). And furthermore, If they feel they are sick and feel that it may be something serious, they tend to avoid the diagnosis because, as humans, they fear disease and death.

I think it depends on their personality whether or not they live a long life if they live a long life. They are under a heavy work load blow their top a little too much are stressed out a lot and have to be kind of tough and mean i guess which i don't mind unless i am real sick then i get mean to! I guess it is better for them to yell then die too young! Many have a type A personality and that is kind of hard on them. I am just an old average type A personality and it is rough on me. If they could find a way to be a little more lay-ed back--relaxed and really and truly enjoy their life and learn to be nice to their patients just for no reason at all this would be a big help to them . I am sorry but if they yell at me i will yell back! I think it is like anyone else weakness that may be inherited-how well they take care of themselves and if they eat properly.and are happy in their work life and personal life..Most of them would not care too much about taking medications because they know the bad side effects! If they took them they would only take the best.-this stands to reason. WELL DOCTORS WE DO CARE SO HOW DO YOU FEEL TODAY?

Ingrid M is correct out of all the answers here.
Doctors do not necessarily live longer. Try working 10+ hours daily, and that's usually 7 days a week, on call all night and awakened constantly during the night for orders and emergencies.
As far as self treating, there is a certain degree of that but they tend to go to other physicians for treatment. Just like they don't usually treat their own family.

In all cases, life span depends upon certain hereditary factors and the man has no control over them. In certain cases, physicians are so over engaged so that they do not get sufficient time to undergo the routine health tests. I have seen several newspaper reports about the heart attack and untimely deaths of even cardiac physicians. Had they checked cholesterol level in the blood in time, such early demise would not have taken place. Once upon a time, an Health Minister asked the doctors to raise their hands at an Annual Conference of National Medical Practitioners if they were doing regular daily exercise. The survey revealed that only few were doing regular exercises. The diseases affecting affluent societies are also affecting the medical community. One dermatologist showed his own incurable skin infection to one of his patient, since the latter was mentally upset by a mild skin infection. The doctor told him that he got skin infection from one of his own patients. Drug resistant bacteria are also infecting medical community in spite of strict safeguards. I believe that a member of the medical community is getting more attention and preferential treatment at a lesser cost than others in the hospitals. In general, I hold the view that doctors live longer than others due to their medical knowledge even though there is no evidence to substantiate the statement. This is true in the case of diabetic patients who study and understand their own disease better.

The answer to your first question is that it depends on the nature of the ailment.
I once saw a study that reported the average life expectancy of a male doctor was the early sixties. Some what lower than males across the board in the US.

They might first self prescribe a drug, or medicine for themselves, before seeing another doctor. They frequently are overworked, and don't have the time to sit in a waiting room hours, to see another doctor. Chiropractors, however, frequently see each other, and seldom take drugs of any kind. They are more prone to changes in lifestyles, and nutrition, than Medical doctors.

Generally, people who work in the medical field dont take care of themeselves. They usually have poor health because of high stress.
Doctors treat each other. It would be unethical for them to write scripts out for themselves.

Doctors treat each other. They tend to live shorter lives than other professional people because they don't get much exercise and they keep meeting sick people.

Find doctors on here and ask them. they will know this better themselves, many people are guessing and don't really know unless they are doctors.
