Dog was sick, didn't eat all day diarhea and vomitting.?

Question

Yesterday, my dog was vomitting and had diarhea all day that came out of nowhere.  I gave him a Lomitril pill that the vet had given me once before for him.  There was no obvious reason for this.  He didn't eat anything new.  I gave him a lomotril pill which the vet had given him once before for same symptoms.  If he wasn't better after that we were going to the animal hospital.  It held him all night.  Today he is not vomitting anymore and has no diarhea but still had his usual 3 - 4 bowel movements so far (it's evening) which were normal.  He still was not eating so I boiled  some white chicken breast.  He was starved and devoured it "like an animal"!  That was an hour ago and he seems happy now. He hasn't thrown up all day and his movements are formed. Question:  without eating for 1.5 days and having diarhea all day, how can he still have significant bowel movements the next day?  This can't be coming from any food?  What could have caused this since he had nothing different to eat

It generally takes a couple of days for food to completely exit the digestive system. He may have still had some waste left  after the diarrhea. He may just have caught a gastro bug the same as people do or are you sure he didnt eat anything he wasnt supposed to. Dogs can be sneaky sneaky things.

It could be a simple bug (virus), or from my own experience actually just two weeks ago..my dog didn't eat for a couple days, vomitted and had diarhea.  My vet suggested changing her food (something with different ingredients) and so far it has worked.  Example..I was feeding her chicken, lamb and rice food, now I feed her duck and potato food and she eats it!  No more illness or diarhea.  Sometimes, they may not like their food or could have allergies to a certain ingredient.  In fact, I was told by my vet and the girl at the pet store that dogs are usually allergic to chicken for some reason.  Not saying your dog is..but this is what I have experienced with my pet. I'm not a vet but I have a dog that does that every so often.  Stress can really do a number on a dogs tummy.  I did some research online and found a recipe that works really well in those situations.  Get a bag of chicken leg quarters, a tub of cottage cheese, and white rice.  Boil 4 four leg quarters for 1.5 hours, remove chicken from water, add 2-3 cups of rice cook til all water is absorbed (add water as needed if rice is too undercooked).  Remove chicken from bones and add to the rice.  Remove excess liquid from cottage cheese(I have found that squeezing it through a cheese cloth works best).  Add cottage cheese to rice and chicken.  Feed at normal feeding time for three days this will eliminate most diahrea.  Oh I almost forgot I usually will add a  tablespoon of plain yogurt to each feeding, this helps to balance and restore healthy bacteria in their intestines.  If you ever see blood take you dog to the vet ASAP.

Sounds like it could be worms.  Our new dog had them and she was sick as can be, the prior owners took her to the vet and she had hook worms. You wont be able to see them, so its not really worth checkin, but the vet will run a couple tests and know right away.  Its not very spendy to get them done either.  Not a huge deal just some medication and shes been great ever since!
