You have to be able to get to the back side of the dashboard. Some older cars, like VW, you can access the back of the dashboard from under the hood. Most cars you have to stand on your head and work your hand around the steering column until you can put your fingers on the quarter turn bulb holders. 1/4 turn will usually get you a bulb. You might be wise to change all the bulbs, just so that you don't have to get back there again very soon. Sometimes there are 2 or 3 different bulb sizes, and you will have to match those with the socket holes from which you extracted the burned out bulbs. The Check Engine light is by far the most important light in the car. You will fail the smog test if the Check Engine Light does not work correctly.

you need to remove the dash panel that should just snap out(depending on car and type) then you will see the bolts holding the board in take them out remove dash and lights will be in back. just turn to remove (like a tail light) replace bulb.

before each and every thing, why do you want to modify it? The dealership may be the purely right position to bypass to have them replace it. L.E.D. lighting fixtures fixtures are not to any extent further something the regularly occurring Joe needs to really be fooling round with. in case you get the incorrect voltage and watts and length, think about particularly some complications, no longer to point some blown fuses at the same time as ignition time comes! Did I ignore to point the melted sprint housing too?

When my dash board lights went out it was just a fuse that needed to be replaced

In most cars and trucks you have to pull the front of the dash out to get to them.

look - you asked two questions that more then likely are related - your dome lights staying on, and the dash lights out...

have you looked for the wheel that adjusts your dash lights brightness? because that same wheel will turn your dome lights off so youdont have to pull the bulb...

    Check all your fuses first.

Then either check the schematics of your electrical system to find out where the problem might be then fix the wire, or better yet just go take it to the shop and let them put it on there computer...and fix it.

take the dash apart, carefully, usually if it isnt coming off easily there is still a screw of clip still attaching it
