For people in the Uk regarding divorce laws? Especially Wales.?

Hi I have a friend from Wales who is getting a divorce. What are the divorce laws regarding alimony if his wife is making more money than he is does he have to pay or can they just settle property? For his child who is turning 18 will he have to pay child support if she doesn't go to college?

It depends, no-one here can really answer that question, because there are too many factors to take into account. There are various ways of settling and if she hasn't already, she needs to find herself a good solicitor.

Although, her husband probably won't have to pay child support if the child is turning 18 and not continuing with full time education.

    Hi

If I lived in the UK and was married to a whale I would want a divorce also... Sorry!

Generally, it depends on the emotions of the divorce. If the two partners hate each other and want to grab as much property each person can then it will be a long, hard drawn out processes. The child, not being 8 years of age, will have to stay with one of the parents until she reaches her 18th birthday. Most of the time the child is awarded to the mother. However, if the mother can be shown to be of poor character then the child will go to the father. If they both are having problems (i.e. both doing drugs) the young person will find their way to a respectable family member or a Foster care home until they become of age. The person raising the child usually receives the alimony.

When he walked into her life they agreed to split everything 50/50 unless a prenuptial agreement was signed. Outside of the above the difference between what the wife makes and her needs are compared to what the husband makes and his needs. Once the judge decides on the parent’s monetary situation he will then focus on the 18 year old. If she goes to school each parents may be ordered to pay a percentage towards her education. This arrangement will last as long as the child maintains at least a “C” average grade
