[And by "bathroom surface", do you mean floor, walls, vanity top, shower/tub surround...?]

The "coolest colour" is the one you like best.

The standard size tile for walls has been 4" tiles. This is changing, tho; more and more people are using 6", 8" and even larger tiles for walls/showers, etc. Some may say that the size of the tile on the walls should be relative to the size of the room [e.g., if a small room, use small {4"} tiles]. I disagree. I've seen 12" tiles used for a bath/shower surround and it looks GReaT!

Check out the Better Homes & Garden [bhg.com] site for ideas. They have "Slide Shows" of lots of different bathroom/tiling ideas.

If you have a Tile Store in your area, a lot of them have "sample" room sections tiled, so customers can "See" for themselves what different applications of tile look like.

It's CooL to do a Mosaic on a Vanity top. [meaning, any design/or no design/all one color/or a bunch of colors, using small tiles, 1/2", 1", 2", etc.]
